Marrs Bar -- New Type (?) of Safety Squat Bar (SSB)

I have a Crepinsek that I love, and I'm not sure this new style is "necessary", but it does look intriguing if nothing else.

Lots of instagram posts on here to show you how it looks/performs: https://www.instagram.com/_marrs_bar/?hl=en

    Apparently coming out in March?

I want to try one badly. Reportedly it's going to be pretty darn expensive (final price TBD), and it's not nearly as versatile as an SSB, but it's also not really trying to be.

On Reddit about 5 months ago, they quoted $750. Unless that bar adds 250lbs to my squat overnight, I'd rather buy the entire lineup of Edge bars. That is just an insane price.

My guess, which could be totally off/wishful thinking, is that it will come in less than that. They have a company making the bars for them in Kansas. Not sure if that was the case back then or not, but hopefully some volume will help drive the cost down. $750 is very expensive, no doubt.

Even if it came in at $500, unless you can't lift your arms anywhere near your shoulders, what would be the point of having to own this bar outside of variation for squats? That's a lot of money to spend for just variation? I don't see volume driving the price down at all because demand will still be almost zero relatively speaking. Can't stand Kabuki, but if I was thinking of shelling out that kind of money on something, I'd probably look at the Transformer Bar before considering this thing.

I cant say I disagree. The market for this bar is going to be small... very small in all likelihood. But, I do think it’s interesting and I would like to try it one day. It looks to me they’re primarily targeting sports teams, high schools, etc... I’ll be interested to see the market’s appetite following their demo at the Arnold.

I could possibly see it going in some pro and university settings, but even there, I think the demand will be much softer than they are hoping. The reality is that most coaches will not understand the difference between this Maars bar and a regular SSB, or maybe they see the difference and possibly won't value the difference enough to get one. This Maars bar sits within a very, very narrow market.

I think you nailed it. The overwhelming majority of people are going to view this as a really expensive SSB and not understand the differences. Aside from the shear cost of it relative to its value proposition, that will be the biggest obstacle they will need to overcome.

I'll wait for reviews. Interested for sure. That said I have a SSB/Crep and getting a belt squat (fingers crossed). Obviously I have a standard bar so I can do front, back, etc...squats.

Basically, it drops the bar into a few inches lower than the low bar position which in theory shortens the lever and allows you to lift more weight without having to worry about shoulder and elbow pain. I have a friend who tried one out about a year ago and he said it was "interesting." The one thing he said was that it was extremely well balanced and sat very well.

Agreed...but it's really going to boil down to cost, imo.

I've been battling shoulder issues for years and have tried a few different devices to help alleviate some of the stress on the joints, but I'm also too damn cheap to drop a whole bunch of money on a single bar.

The owner mentioned on social that they’ve worked tirelessly to get the price down. Interested to see where it ends up.

Forum raffle. 60 people throw in $10 each, the mods do a drawing and the winner gets the bar.

So I went to the website to see if that price included shipping. It does not.

I live in Dallas. I thought they were in Kansas.

    Shipping is an EXTRA $190.00.

(Didn't see if they were going to charge tax or not).

    So grand total of $779.00.

    Ummmm, no.

    Lmao.

    I'll pass.

Anyone seriously interested should wait about 60 days. By then, Titan will have their knockoff on the market for about $175

I think I might've bashed the Marrs bar in another thread (can't recall), but if I did, I'm prepared to eat crow. Marrs had a stand at the Arnold and Cleveland33 and I tried it. I thought it was awesome honestly. The biggest improvement is that the front squat can be done totally hands free. I used to be able to do a clean grip on a front squat...not anymore because of mobility. With the Marrs bar, I was able to do multiple front squats with no hands and the thing just rock solid not moving anywhere. Back squats - same thing...although that's not nearly as ground-breaking since I can do no hand SSB squats with my EliteFTS. It did sit way further off the back than the EliteFTS obviously.
