Can i do box squat on Fierce 5

Quick question about fierce 5. Im 35yo, I have a really bad right knee as a result of a motor bike crash. I've started the fierce 5 novice and am currently cutting.

As it stands my knee sounds like a cement mixer and gives me some pain. It's not too bad and I'm getting through my squats ok, not very heavy.

Would doing box squats, i.e. Limiting my range of motion for the sake of my knee be all that detrimental? So instead of going right down, just limit my motion so my hips are only just lower than my knees.

Or any other tips for a bad knee? I dont want keep doing full squats if its going to make me knee worse.

I'm guessing a doctor would say to start with body weight squats until you develop normal range of motion and can squat pain free, then start adding a little weight. But I'm not a doctor, so talk with one or two before squatting.

Its an injury 15 years old, and in the years after the crash there was nothing the doctors could do. It's not painful generally, just more of a crackling sound. (Sometimes is painful using it generally). I believe there was minor cartilage damage.

The noises have started getting worse over the last few years, but I have full range of motion and have been using my knee for everything. But this is the first time in my adult life I'm doing squats.

Probably worth getting it looked at again.

35 year old should be able to squat pain free. If the injury is taht old, try some knee sleeves and see if that exta support helps. Otherwise check out with a doc. You mayneed to get it scoped to prevent damaging anything.

Yeah While I'm squatting its pain free, i.e. my squats aren't aggravating it during the exercise in a painful way. it just makes a crackling sound. If I ever get pain it's maybe during running, or kicking a ball or something. My concern is that because squats are fairly intense, they will make it worse.

I'll look into the knee braces. I might go to a physio to see if can get referred to a knee specialist.

Old injuries are the worst. Had a bad eversion ankle sprain in high school that I never got treated by a doctor. When I went to PT to try to work on it the lady just kinda threw her hands in the air by the end of it all not working and told me I'd need a knee replacement by age 40. Got 6 more years left to prove her wrong. Foot's still all screwy though, I can't quite get it into the right shape and there's even problems with the toes not lining up right for some reason.

    Or a physical therapist

Squatting to depth might make kneecap tracking issues better and cure it. Or VERY much worse. It totally depends on your specific condition, so see what they say...
