    Bordeline high cholersterol

Had a routine check, and this was the only notable finding. I seem to remember (although not 100% sure) that the doc said it's either 5.6 or 5.8 (total). Can't remember the HDL/LDL split, but he did say that the HDL should be higher, and LDL should be lower.

What can I do, nutrition wise, to get this under control? He mentioned statins but I am loathe to start medicating before I see if I can fix it by tweaking my nutrition.

Can this be genetic? My father's side of the family all suffer from high cholesterol.

About 20-25% of the population are "hyper responders", in that they do see elevated blood serum cholesterol levels from dietary intake. I'm one of them It was also recommended I go on statins and am currently trying to exhaust all other solutions before going down that road. What is your dietary intake of cholesterol and saturated fat like?

There are other things that can be causing high cholesterol too... but that is somewhere to start. Inflammation is important so you might want to get a CRP test done to measure that.

Replace saturated fat with unsaturated, increase fiber intake, limit eggs and more.

If you google the question you’ll find several good articles. Focus should be on lowering LDL. HDL doesn’t matter much.
