    Is GOMAD for me?

Yes, I know. GOMAD? "NeroPhyte, this isn't 2008 anymore. All you're gonna do is make yourself go bloated and get crazy fat, and be lazy with your gains". Let me see if I can explain.

I was measured as a 19-year old, 5'11'', 140 pound newbie (evident by me not knowing basic jargon) 2 months ago who, despite my efforts, have trouble gaining weight, something even my doctors and other friends have pointed out. I've tried 2500 calorie diets (with the proper exercise), and I'll tell you, it isn't a fun adjustment. The sheer intake of food I have to take to have a calorie surplus is more than I would've imagined, and causes great pains and even greater trips to the ol' ****ter. I would've committed to it until I got use to it, but then I gained a full-time, 5 day a week, 8 - 4:30 desk job that doesn't really allow me to prepare food as efficiently as I would've like (with only 30 minute lunch break as a free time), and only exercise during the nighttime. Due to this, any small gains I had made over the past few months receded and I was back to square 1.

While I was working on Friday, I heard from a friend of mine that one of his motorcycling buddies (who was skinny the 7 or so months before when I saw him) that he bulked up significantly. When I ask him how, he said that he drank an entire gallon of milk, every day until he gained. I thought to myself "No way, that can't be a real thing". So I search it up and, surprise sur-mother****ing-prise, it is a real thing that is recommended for skinny people or people who have trouble gaining weight.

Now the question is, is it for me? Like if I start drinking a gallon's worth, or even just 3/4ths a gallon's worth, eat a basic balanced meal (that doesn't require the 5-6 meals a day like I was doing before) and pump iron at night, will I expect some muscle gains? From what I understand, most of it is fat with some of it being muscle, so it's not ideal for muscle building but it does have some protein in it, and a little bit of extra fat can't be too bad considering how skinny I am now. If the weight starts to become to much, I'm prepared to deal with the consequences and I will work equally hard to trade that in for muscle strength. Just wanna know if in my situation it's a good idea. Thanks!

As someone who has done it twice for good results, I will say combined with a proper strength training routine it can be beneficial. I did it as my first major bulk, with three days of high rep squatting per week and added about 30 pounds, was squatting 225x20, and still looked fine to me. People I hadn't seen in a while couldn't believe I was the same person. Second go around with the same method I went up to 225 for strongman reasons and was squatting 315x20, but that was too much body mass for my 5'8" frame in general so I didn't stay there long.

Comes down to total calories in.

A gallon of milk is roughly 2400 or so, IIRC. How does fit in relative to your TDEE and other food intake?

I always get confused when I see threads started by people who can't gain weight.

You do know that a cheese burger with fries is easily over 1000 calories. Do you like cheese burgers or pizza or pasta with cream sauce? Make 2 out of your 3 meals calorie sense choices and profit. I have the opposite problem as you where I just get fat unless I'm dieting because I love flood.

You don't have to only eat brown rice broc**** and boiled chicken to make gains you know?

The point I'm trying to make is why force feed yourself a gallon of milk when you can just eat stuff you love... Like pizza, burgers, pasta, steak etc....

    no you don't need GOMAD

eat some actual food and diversify your macro and micronutrients from different sources. If you have trouble eating alot of calories eat a whole damn pizza or something or get some fried chicken and biscuits

Is there a significant difference with chugging a gallon of milk vs eating an extra whole pizza in terms of what I aim to achieve? Like is it just a matter of milk tasting worse or am I losing valuable protein intake, carbs etc.?

Eat more meat (as well healthy food choices such as fruits and vegetables, beans, rice, etc). Don't do these gimmick diets.

That's his problem though. Fruits and veggies aren't calorie sense and he'll never eat enough to his his calorie goals focusing on eating them.

Isn't it easier to eat a cheese burger with fries and wash it down with a glass of milk twice per day to get to 3000 calorie.

Or eat 2-4 slices of pizza 2-3 times per day and wash it down with some milk to get over 2500 calories rather than guzzling a gallon of milk.

OP I think you're underestimating how hard it is to drink a gallon of milk every day.

Start with a glass of milk with each meal. And see how that affects both weight and you.

No need to go from 0 to a gallon.

Honestly it just sounds like a recipe to be both fat and weak at the same time. Eat more protein dense real food such as meat instead. Don't worry so much about your bodyweight and instead focus on adding weights to the bar each week.

i have done GOMAD twice! and im not a skinny guy at all!! i ran it cuz i could care less how much weight i would gain and focused on strength and ONLY strength! im not into "looking good" cuz i was in my lower 30's and my goal was to be strong so i can protect my family etc! i emphasize MY GOAL AND ONLY MY GOAL!!!however, after running it, i did NOT gain as much fat as lead to believe and after running it my first time for 5 months, my lifts went through the roof! IF you are only worried about strength, then do it!!!! i got my lifts on SS up to 375 for squat for 5, 450 dead for 5, 225 for OHP, and my worst lift the bench i got to 275 although i could have gone past that if i didnt have a rotator cuff issue! IF you do it though, dont do like me and start off with a gallon on the first day! start off with a couple glasses, then up it to a liter, etc etc etc!!! and if you dont want to do a full gallon, work your way up to a half gallon and see how you feel!

its not that hard to be honest!!! i did it twice and STILL ate wendys , mcdonalds etc everday etc!! dont get me wrong, going from no milk to a gallon, it will be tough!!! i unfortunatly did it from drinking 0 milk right to a gallon! i shouldnt say unfortunatley because it was not hard at all!!!! the only thing that would have sucked is if i had to pay for it! fortunatly i worked for a major supermarket in the corporate office, and i would volunteer to get the milk every morning for coffee and etc..... so then i would buy an extra gallon out of petty cash and would buy an extra gallon! what i did was drink a glass every hour or two! before you know it, the milk is gone and you still havent left work....... best thing i ever done

When I was 19 me and 3 friends drank half gallon to a gallon of milk per day and each put on 15kg in 8 months.
    We taken no supplements.
Also we didn't know it was a thing, we just done it for the hell of it and it escalated, you get a taste for it.
We worked out reasonably hard too.
One of us got pre-diabetes from it though.

    I'd recommend it.
