Can squats be affected by back DOMS?

I run Lyle McDonald's GBR and have started it recently. Last Saturday (lower body workout #1), I did squats with 185 lbs for three sets of 7-8 reps. Few days later on Wednesday, I did deadlifts with 190 lbs for 3 sets as well; I ended up getting bad DOMS from this in my lower back, though no pain whatsoever.

This morning I decided to do squats again but with 190 lbs (5 lbs added). I was feeling pretty confident about getting at least 6 reps since I didn't struggle too much with squats the prior week. As soon as I did my warmup sets, my lower back started aching (no pain) and I felt weaker and not as tight. When I reach my working sets of 190 lbs, I could only get 2-3 reps each set.

Could back DOMS hinder squatting power? The DOMS have been around for about 4 days now. I don't experience any pain. When I did my deadlifts, my back had been straight throughout the entire set.

Yes, other factors at play too, basically you haven't fully recovered so of course you will be a little weaker.

How much does the low back play into squats? I know my legs and core were strong enough for the weight, yet I lacked the support of my low back. Squats did not feel stable at all during my sets and I didn't feel like risking any injury.

Couldn't tell you exactly, but I know what you mean. If you feel limited by your back you are possibly doing "good morning squat" to an extent.

It did form checks for my squats and it wasn't a good morning. My form was decent, but I felt weaker than usual.

I normally warm up with 95, 135, and 155 lbs for 5 reps before hitting my working sets. All these weights felt 10 lbs heavier than normal.

Bumped. Is the lower back important for squats or is it in ny head? I hope it isn’t the latter since my back affected my warmup.

The lower back IS important for squats, as well as abs (you wear a belt, right?).
Core strength is essential and not only in compound exercises.
DOMS are very annoying and can definitely prevent you to push to the max. I always try to organize my schedule in order not to have DOMS in the muscular groups involved in the next training.
    Just my 2 cents

Never had to wear a belt. Is it really necessary?

I definitely am aware of the core part, can feel my abs when doing deadlifts. I have gotten occasional ab soreness from hitting compounds.

Is that for times when my back is sore? When I started out, I wasn’t that strong with a narrow stance.

its not necessary at all! depends on the person! i do my squats beltless cuz its more comfortable for me and i know how to breathe! ive done all my squats whether its my 1 rep max(475) or anything beltless too.....thats not to say you shouldnt! granted im sure there will become a time that i will feel uncomfortable doing more weight without a belt, but like i said, its up to you! if you dont feel confident under the bar without one, then wear one!
