Misc is dying wtf

First page still has threads from one hour ago. WTF back in the day while you finished typing a post and went back to the misc tons of posts and threads were made.

It’s a shame, I’ll get on then check 3-4 hours later and the same threads are just sitting there cold. With a few new ones that are generally uninteresting to just about everyone and only get a few comments.

All forums are dying. It is the current trend. People are moving to social media or reddit. Add to the fact, this forum hasn't been updated often and this is the result. I fully expect it to be a ghost town in 5 years or less. Look at some of the other subsections, they are already dead.

a few big posters got banned and it's easier to get banned in general now, i have noticed the mods come down harder on race/sexual jokes and threads but i understand why tbh... in this day and age with the culture of apology and outrage all it takes is one bad joke to get mainstream attention and the owners of bb.com are screwed with reputational damage.

On the positive side there seems to have been an overall decrease in whining.

The glory days are well and truly over though, I doubt there will be many new members who "get" the misc at this point

I don't know why people haven't made this thread at least twice a week since 2008! Banning thousands of active posters wouldn't even have made a dent during the heyday.

When people harken back to the days when you could make a post and it would be off the first page in sixty seconds, that's not just empty talk. That's what it was really like.

So it's not about mods banning people. If anything, that's just a result of everybody leaving, so now the mods are more likely to notice bad behavior since the regular posters only number in the hundreds now (that's just a guess- maybe it's thousands).

Like it's been stated many times before, forums in general and bb.com forums in particular are relics of a time before today's 140 character social media, and the relics are dying a slow death.

You can't fix any of that with moderators or "good posters," despite common belief.

Na, the overwhelming majority of quality posters got banned or left because they kept having posts/threads deleted.

It doesn't seem as bad now, but there was a time when mods had clearly been instructed to clean the place up. People were dropping like flies, good threads were vanishing, etc. I think that's why a lot of people just thought phuck it and bounced.

Of course some people just grew up and moved on, but Reddit/4chan are still active af. The misc died because at a certain point it stopped being the misc.

Although I only started lurking in 2010, you have been here since like 2002. I guess your "glory days" and mine are different.
