Remember reading an article a few weeks back suggesting these extensions are getting done because the agents are pushing them so they can get paid now. Wasn't sold on that. However it does seem to be partly the case.

Even though I think we all agree Albies would have gotten way more, maybe he wanted the security of being done with it.

I’m not saying it’s likely but he could get injured tomorrow, struggle to recover, and be out of baseball just like that.

$35-$45 mil might seem like nothing considering the contracts players get these days but that’s a sh*t load of money in the real world.

Maybe that’s enough for him, who knows what actually went down and how aware he is.

I don’t really think Acunas was all that favorable when you break it down. He’s still getting $124/10 (assuming options exercised)

Half of those years he’s not making 12.4 mil a year because he’s not set to hit arb for 3 years and then the first two arb years aren’t automatically shoot him up to $12 mil.

Then add in the fact he’s not guaranteed to be some huge superstar. Yeah he looks good and well on his way but consistency matters and isn’t established.

If he turns into a superstar, yeah then obviously the Braves saved here. But if he doesn’t, just as likely to be in Acunas favor.
