Switching from mass gainer to whey protein

Will i lose muscle mass if i decided to switch from mass gainer to whey protein? Because im a ectomorph i know that once i switch to whey protein, my calories intake will drop by a significant amount but will that affect my muscle mass?

Not if you make up the calories with something else. Like real food.

If your overall caloric intake is dropping, then weight may drop as well. What are your goals here? Were you in a surplus, but now going to eat in a deficit?

i don mind my weight dropping due to the drop in fat mass (from mass gainer) but not my muscle mass.

In surplus calories intake now but unsure whether my calories intake will be deficit when i switch to whey but definitely would be lesser than before. So was trying to figure out what will happen to my muscle mass if it happens to be in a deficit.

    1. Determine caloric surplus.
    2. Determine difference in calories between your mass gainer and the protein you plan to take.
    3. Calculate your new surplus.
    4. Make sure you are eating enough protein to maintain your current level of muscle mass, especially if you will now be in a caloric deficit.

Mass gainer does not equate to actually building muscle O.o
It's just a calorie dense (carb loaded) protein supplement.
So if you are going from a mass gainer to whey.. then simply eat more food to compensate.
Workout properly & eat eat eat!

    zeron,

Opting for a whey protein over a gainer is a good choice. If you feel your not getting enough calories add some fruits, oats or peanut butter to your protein shakes, or increase your daily calories.

    Good luck.
