Exclamation Exercise bike making strange noises and has green ooze?

So, I have had a gold's gym exercise bike for about a year and have used it with great success to lose weight (lost 60 lbs by using it since June), but tonight I came across a problem. When I attempted to use it, it made a weird hissing sound while I was pedaling. When I looked in the part where the pedals were to see what was going on, I found a greenish yellow substance. Would anyone happen to know what is the cause of this? and how to fix it?

The substance wasn't there yesterday and it was not making the hissing sound yesterday, either.

Sounds like a bad crank. My guess is its not a 3 peace crank so the whole shaft and crank arms will need to be replaced.

    Time for a new bike!

I'm a bit confused.... what does bike oozing greenish yellow chit and losing 60 lbs have to do with each other??? Is the OP Dr Pimple Popper?

How much of this green substance? Like a quart or only small fractions of an ounce? Thin like Gatorade? Or thick like honey? Is this hiss perhaps a grinding or scraping noise?

This seems like the most probable answer. I think this substance is the grease that leaked out past the bearing seal when the bearing race shattered.

Gold's Gym is only good for very occasional use. Mostly they get used as clothes hangars. It seems like you use your bike regularly, so it's time to upgrade.

I agree, most probably a collapsed crank bearing. Time to scrap the Golds bike and pick up something decent.

Personally I'd look for a used/reconditioned commercial model, you can pick them up for the cost of a new mid priced unit.
