Does seem like he's a bit sour, but rightfully so I say. Like he said, it's a champ vs champ, let the fight go a few seconds longer until it's definitive. Figthter safety blah blah blah, these guys know what they're doing and they're in a championship match, no one in the world would want it stopped that way. Give him a shot of recovering or let him take a bit more damage so there's no contention about a championship fight. I'm with Dana for once.

I want you guys to take the last 100 TKOs in the UFC. Maybe 50 if you don't feel like gathering more data.
Now, compare TJ's capacity to fight against those 50-100 TKOs. Put a percentile on how capable he was of continuing the fight. Where does he fall? 90th percentile? 95th percentile? 99th?
Then, bring it forth to your mind that this is a 2 belt superfight.
Bottom line is the ref completely blew the decision. President of the UFC thinks so. Professional commentator Chael Sonnen thinks so. Imagine if they compared this TKO to al the others. LMAO!*Hole is Life Crew*

Welcome to the sport of MMA. There are a thousand talking heads, including Chael and Dana. Those two thought it was a bad call. Many more think it was a good call, including many "professionals."
Also much as I like Chael, it's well known that Chael is the worst analyst in the business (serious).
Anyway, I'm not sure what you mean when you say you want me to "take the last 50 fights", but I'll tell you this: I've watched countless thousands of fights over the past three decades, so I'm comfortable with my opinion that the stoppage was good.
The referee did his job. He followed the criteria. Could he have let it go on longer and still had an argument that he had followed the criteria? Maybe. There is some level of subjectivity there.

Agreed it was definitly early....think back on the cyborg/nunes fight...the ref let it go until it was definite.Keep in mind these are 125ers and they dont hit like heavyweights. Plus, add on to the fact that its a superfight (which means there is more on the line for these fighters so they should get every opportunity to win/lose)
That being said TJ definitly lost i dont see any way he could have come back from that. He should have accepted defeat.

Lol... Watched the fight yesterday morning and didn't check the Misc/Youtube, etc for reviews all yesterday. I shouldn't be surprised by the reactions, but once again, I am.
The fact that it was a title fight shouldn't change the referee's job, which is to protect the fighters from taking excessive damage. The stoppage was perfectly fine. Some people seem to think that mma should adopt a "tap out or get knocked unconscious" set of rules. Just because, in the past, people have been knocked out momentarily, recovered, and come back to win doesn't mean that's the norm. Those were poor decisions by the ref. Dana only cares about the money, so his opinion on "early" stoppages is pretty irrelevant. He's the biggest Just Bleed fan there is.
Fighters need to learn that if you are taking 5-10+ shots to the head simultaneously without proper defense/movement, the fight can, and should, be stopped. If the ref lets it continue (Dan Miragliotta), then that is the exception and not the rule. TJ was taking shots without even covering or mounting an offensive shot. He barely had his wits about him enough to desperation wrestle as a last ditch effort. Then he was wobbling on his feet. He's just being a poor sport.

Whether or not you think the ref did TJ a favour is irrelevant. We have seen some crazy chit in this sport, and fighters deserve to be allowed to fight until they are truly beaten.
I'm not talking flat out unconscious taking shots, but TJ was not limp, he was moving, he jumped straight up. He got dropped/hurt twice but I really don't think he was completely out of the fight.
That said, I couldn't care less. It was a joke from the start. Let's send TJ down to win a belt in a division that will no longer exist so he can call himself the double champ. What a load of garb.
