Because they want supra fanboys to buy them, then in 2 years debut a model with a V8 or something. Then more fanboys will get that as well.
It's like it's good marketing but at the same time not. Personally, i think it'll fail. But i hope not because toyota is a good brand, because they're known for it's reliability but when it comes to stuff like this, i don't think they're good at it at all.

Because Toyota didn't do it themselves and now BMW dictate the power and price the supra will be sold at. And BMW will never allow it to shadow their M cars.
People acting like Toyota have any say in this vehicle beyond the exterior design are either in denial or too stupid to realise Toyota are not the same company that made the previous Supras.GMiscer crew

Cucked indeed. Not sure I agree BMW are to blame though. They just built the car they were always going to build. Toyota agreed to sell a watered down Supra.
It’s not a bad car, objectively speaking. The M240i is a good thing and this will be similar but better. It’s just not what people wanted.GMiscer crew

The 0-60 times on the supra are better than the z4... toyota wanted a balanced car... add 50-100hp and it's going to be very quick... sub 3.9 to 60 easily. I don't want one but you all need to quit.
Im sure a 385 supra rz type r limited will come out.The only 5k I will ever complete: rep power on bb.com

It would have made more sense for them to use a lexus is350 or RC F as the basis of the supra instead of the bmw z4.
The only real advantage I can see is that the z4 weighs a lot less, but Im sure they could have gotten the weight down. The suspension could always be tuned to be more sporty vs luxury.
It just seems really lazy of Toyota, to take a bmw car and slap on a different body panel and call it a supra.

Don’t be obtuse. It’s obvious minor Bolton’s and a fuel pump and injectors will make this thing fairly quick for what it is. The platform itself is inferior to the 2jz and Toyota is to blame for that. You don’t come out with a Supra and go away from what made the mk4 special. As others have said, most haven’t even modded the engine yet because most are still carrying warranties. Let’s see just how much this thing can make before blowing up compared to the twenty+ year old engine from its predecessor.

You are basing the potential on your own speculation. The platform itself sounds lovely with regards to sports cars and the reasons drivers choose them over say, a hellcat. I suspect it will have the steering feedback the last gen sorely missed on, and will feel significantly lighter (mostly because it isn't 3500lbs and is not nose heavy like an mk4..).
Wait until you drive one and remember the NSX was a bigger departure than the new Supra will be. Soon they will all be electric anyhow. The only 5k I will ever complete: rep power on bb.com

Why would I pay $50,000 for a poverty Supra when I can pay the same amount for a Camro 2SS?
You can get a Camaro RS 1LE Coupe that outperforms a poverty ass Supra for $10,000 less.*United States Space Force Vet*

I feel they took everything that made the Supra epic, removed it and we are getting a generic "just enough" sports car with the Supra name plate attached...
Overbuilt everything that will handle massive amounts of HP and stay together (iron block, forged cranks, stout transmission) - NOPE
Ground breaking styling - NOPE
Etc
Etc..Last edited by Scarrdbutsmartr; 01-22-2019 at 02:02 PM.
