The most profitable activity for a trainer

Can you please advise? Is it better to train one on one or maybe online training, or write and sell a program/meal plan on the internet?

As I know you can't become a millionaire in the gym. So I am trying to find additional sources of passive/active income.

    Thank you

    Booty shots on instagram.

Seriously. The appetite for pornography, even softcore gym pornography, is greater than the appetite for training. Once you get the tie-ins and paid product placements, the money rolls in.

Webcam stuff and gay for pay are also lucrative, many top bodybuilders do it.

Now, if you want your money to come from actually training people, that's a longer road. And that's the road of excellence - work with lots of people, reflect on what you did with them, what worked what didn't, read books and talk to other trainers and improve your craft. And then in ten years you might be good, and people will pay you good money for 1:1 training, small group training, ask you to write books and so on. And then money comes in.

But not as much money and not as quickly as booty shots and gay for pay. Sorry.

    Get Rich or Die Coaching

The new year has come and it opens new opportunities for all sport and fitness enthusiasts. So let’s have a look at the fitness industry trends for this year. Where it is going and what should, people involved in this sphere, expect. Mostly I am talking about trainers and coaches as they are the very people responsible for the bodies and health of millions.

New technologies and the most up-to-date internet services emerge every day to ease the hard work of trainers and people connected with this industry from all over the world. There are no physical boundaries between continents and people any more, and if you are a pro trainer with top-notch training program or you published an e-book with your training recommendations, or developed a unique diet plan, you have all the chances to become a rich person this year. Yes this year is not an exception to a deeper technological penetration in sport and fitness industry, which can help earn some money.

I know you have to work 24/7 in the gym to pay your bills. And you can hardly find a millionaire among your trainer-pals. But do you use all your potential? Have you heard about the Internet?

I know, I know, there is an enormous avalanche of fitness ads on the net pleading to visit their best gym or train with their one-of-a-kind trainers, instructors and coaches.

Hm...that’s very strange. Why? Almost 70% of Americans are overweight and one out of every five Americans are going to visit the gym, or at least going to pay for a membership. So why do they even need to advertise their gyms or trainers? Where are all these individuals struggling to lose their weight or get gains? Truly speaking I’ve never seen an overcrowded gym. You can freely choose a suitable time for you and train with any instructor you want.

Right, they target them correctly, all these people are on the internet. But the ads don’t work as good as they are expected to do by the gym owners or personal trainers. Sure, I agree, they lack online marketing knowledge but this is not the only reason; worked they even with a marketing agency they won’t succeed, as fitness and sport are specific fields and such agencies must posses a very good expertise.
Any marketing agencies specializing on fitness? Who can help with advice? None.

So, all the people on the internet and all the ads are on the internet too and nothing. Why don’t they click the ads and head for the local gym?
Once I asked on a fitness forum ‘How to become rich if you're a fitness trainer’, and know what? Users advised me to perform in a softcore gym porn. Gay porn. What the..? Is this the only way to get rich for a personal trainer or instructor?

So, what we have now: ‘according to the ACE Salary Report for Health and Fitness Professionals, the average salary for personal trainer is $52,537’
    Well, not much.

People say I need at least 10 years of experience and, perhaps, in the future I will become famous and only then, maybe, I will be able to sell 1 000 000 copies of my training programs worldwide and get some money. I don’t want to wait. I want people to know about me now.

    What is going on?

More and more people buy equipment to exercise at home. Time is money then ever before. No one wants to waste time on the long way to the gym, traffic jams or parking issues. Training at home or using a nearby outdoor exercise equipment
is so convenient. No one wants, nowadays, to go outside without a serious reason.
Take for example internet shopping, I don’t remember the last time I bought a gadget offline. Online pizza, online movies, online training, even online medical consultation.

Taking into account that everything now online I decided to investigate how this could be utilized by a fitness industry and trainers.

No surprise, that I quickly ask for advice from our common friend Google. Fitness online training query gave me About 1,030,000,000 results. As you can see this is quite a popular trend currently.

So in the ‘People also ask section’ I have found a couple of suggestions for individuals who want to become an online coach.

Find Your Niche. Well it’s easy, let it be High-intensity interval training (HIIT)
Determine your USP (Unique Selling Proposition). Ok, I have developed a training program, put it into PDF file, enrich it with youtube links, so people will know how to do each exercise. Downloadable, understandable, based on experience Selling Proposition. I’m ready what’s next?
Choose your Promotional Channels. … How? Where? Social Media? Own website?

I have checked some social pages of well-known trainers, my conclusion is you need at least 2 million subscribers to be successful. It will take forever and two years to acquire such a number of fans. Plus ******** and Instagram and others are changing their news feed algorithms and it is getting tougher from day to day for new users to promote their pages and get likes. According to The Big ******** Algorithm Change in 2018: ‘You'll see less public content like posts from businesses, brands, and media.’ Thank you Mark!
But we still have ads, yes but you will need to spend a fortune to get 100 subscribers.

Marketing agencies? Very expensive as well and useless for this specific segment of business as I mentioned before.

    How about your own website?

I have come across a great number of personal websites developed by trainers on the internet. Well, they really look like made by fitness trainers not professional developers. I asked three average website agencies for quotes. I needed a simple website with a payment processing solution for a small business from scratch. $2000. Minimum. Hm… No wonder everyone is trying to develop a website in do-it-yourself way.
One more option is buying a website template, but you will have to deal with hosting, SEO optimization, article posting, editing, cleaning up outdated content.

Let’s sum up. For your online fitness business you will require such knowledge as: SMM, SEO, SEM, PPC, CTR, HTML, CSS, Photoshop, and so on.

If you can do all these things why did you even become a trainer, go work for an IT company.

What is the best business solution?

If you want to concentrate on your professional training activity, making people fit and healthy, I would suggest to use a third party solution.

I have explored all the internet and I can divide these companies into two groups.

First group. Mobile applications. People will use mobile app to train.

    What this software gives you:
    Pros:
    Personal profile
    Payment processing
    Tracking system
    Client Messaging

    Cons:
Look for the clients on your own
    No promotion
    Limited number of locations
    Paid plans
    Paid customization
Clients have to keep their phones with them all the time

Another group. Marketplace online platforms like MuscleMadness.co
    What these platforms give you
    Pros:
    Personal Profile
    Payment Processing
    Clients
    Free promotion on the internet
    Free customization
No paid plans, (they take only % of sales)
    Clients Messaging
    Reviews, Question and Answers section
Powerful fitness community on social media with millions of subscribers
Popular formats for uploading training programs - PDF, ZIP.
    Work worldwide

    Cons:
    No video chat
    No tracking system
    English interface only

You can try both platforms, but I think finally we can do want we like - Sport and Fitness.

That was a poor article, rambling, unfocused, and showing your lack of experience. It's alright to be inexperienced, just don't emphasise it too much when speaking to potential clients.

You are focusing on promotion, but first you need something worthwhile to promote. Take the time to actually train people, reflect on it and build your skills.

This post from last year is somewhat relevant for you:- https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showt...post1551344211

Thank you for your comment and link. Maybe promoting is really for more advanced trainers, but I saw some inexperienced though natural-born trainers, perhaps simultaneous experience gaining and self promoting has the right to exist. And I do agree you need to show successful results of your training.
