    The Obesity Myth

Hello everyone. Although it would be no surprise to all of the seasoned forum members here I was watching a documentary here in Australia called The Obesity Myth.

It follows a number of patients who are battling morbid obesity, some weighing well over 200kg.

One of the doctors responsible for treating some of the patients was a huge proponent of a ketogenic diet and was emphatically saying that some people have a genetic predisposition to obesity - I felt sorry for those patients but I also found it very hard to buy that, especially when they were clearly overeating to a severe degree.

Some of the other patients received bariatric surgeries.

Well it instantly reminded me of this forum and wanted to post here because funnily enough the most successful treatements were the ones that resulted in calories in vs calories out. Things like the surgeries, whilst reserved for treatment in extremely morbidly obese patients, meant they ate less than their caloric requirements and therefore lost weight. Another patient was prescribed a ketogenic diet but struggled to stick to it, admitted to having several cheat days and barely lost weight.

Anyway I know the question is asked almost every day and the same answer is always given but it really does ultimately come down to calories in vs out.

To all those who are patiently helping others with the simple and solid advice keep it up!
