I find the idea of a government shutdown intriguing and I love to go around shouting "anarchy!!!" at everyone, but government shutdowns are not helpful. The "essential business" of government still continues and we still pay for it; a shutdown isn’t the same as temporarily having a limited, fiscally responsible, accountable government.

If there is any silver lining, it’s that it serves as a great example of how petty our major parties have grown and how much they now value “beating” the other side over actually governing the nation and representing its people.
