So a few years back my wife and I both competed in a local bodybuilding show. We both ended up being disappointed in how we placed but my wife's placing was even more bothersome. A young girl 20 years old or so who competed in her class, mind you this was women's physique and this girl had zero muscle, finished ahead of her and we both can not to this day understand why. The pic below is of the girl who beat out my wife, and she looks like she didn't even train for this show! My wife and I take the sport of bodybuilding very seriously and put a ton of work into prepping for our contests and to see a young girl who looks like she just threw on a bikini she wears to go to the beach with her friends without any training, no muscle, and no chest was just so frustrating. Seems just because she was fit and pretty that she thought she belonged up there with many deserving ladies. Am I crazy for thinking this way??

Should she even have taken the stage?

A local show, was it even sanctioned by any organization?
You can end up with a guy who decides to set up a show, and he's gotta find judges. And that can end up just being some buddies from the gym or something. They might know a bit about bodybuilding or what have you, but have no clue how to judge women.
Flip side of that is that some of the competitors don't actually know anything about competition. They think, or are, fit... someone tells them they should do this local show that's coming up, and they do.
If you manage to land at a show where both of those things happen...2020 Olympia Bound | NPC WPD Nationally Qualified | 2018 Arnold Amateur WPD Top 3 | 2x WPD Pro World Champion (INBA/DFAC)

This was in the Physique category?
I would see her winning a bikini category in some organizations, but physique?
I would be slightly annoyed too... But Kimm is right, that only thing you can do is improve yourself and move on, and maybe switch to another organization.
That being said it's a bit rude to post her pic on this forum though. In a way, it's not her fault, but the judges. And I agree that some people are pushed to do a show just because "they look good". Either way, she needs another bikini.
What organization was that (if I may ask)?!Mom of two boys. Natural competitor.

All of you ladies make very good points, and all of you look like you put tons of effort into getting into the shape that you are in. Nice work ladies you all look great!!
It was an IBNF show. I mean she didn't win the class by a long shot, but finished one spot ahead of my wife. The other ladies at the top of the class no doubt deserved to finish ahead of my wife, but for my wife to lose to her is what truly upset her. Aside from how she looked the way she acted backstage was very immature. Laughing, joking, talking about other competitors it seemed like, and purposely pulling her posing suit up her backside. Like she thought she was better than everybody else.

Well, I see some muscle there...I know I look unimpressive just standing there, but look pretty descent flexing and posing.
So, I’d like to see multiple pictures of her onstage alongside your wife and the other competitors. Hard to form an opinion when we can’t see the competition.
P.S. All the girls in the background look comparatively similar.

Wait a minute...all those girls are wearing heals and jewelry and have fancy bathing suits...that sure looks like bikini to me? Is this post for real or is there an ulterior motive? Perhaps you should take down this woman’s photo unless you have her permission.

Oh I could see her placing well in a bikini category. Not that she has an impressive physique (to me), but some bikini competitors aren't really muscular (at all). I thought she competed in the Physique category I was like WTF is that...
I hope your wife can just learn from this and come out stronger next time!Mom of two boys. Natural competitor.

Seriously...competition pictures, or just drop it. How hard is it? You obviously know how to post a picture. You’ve had ample time to prove your case...but by not posting pictures, I’m guessing you don’t HAVE a case.
I’m guessing...OP (who started an account just for this) hits on girl at bikini competition. She wants NOTHING to do with him. He posts this tread to get even, hoping that all the other competitors at future competitions will think she’s a bi*ch without even getting to know her. Sad really.Last edited by grubman; 01-15-2019 at 03:28 AM.

Sadly grubman you can stop begging for pictures of my wife. Just because you haven't gotten the material you want to ogle you have to come after me like a child? Grow up buddy and stop trying to portray me as some villain. Ive seen your progression video, trust me you still aren't even at my wife's level lol

His points are valid. A single off-stage picture of a woman does not tell us much of anything. You keep wanting feedback about this woman finishing ahead of your wife. The one and only way anybody can legitimately give you any feedback on that, is on stage competition photos of both of them. It's that simple. Provide those, or STFU about it because it's going nowhere because we have nothing to work with.

Late to the conversation, but let me see if I've got this straight.
OP states that the competition in question from from several years ago. So he's been carrying a grudge about someone who was selected one position ahead of his wife... for how many years?!?!
He then posts a photo, with the intention of apparently just shaming this person. If he'd wanted opinions on "why did this person place ahead of my wife?" only photos from that stage of BOTH people would have been useful to answer the question. So yeah, I agree with Grubman on that whole subject.
Here's the thing, OP. I didn't see the photo you posted, but it sounds like the girl in question came in undermuscled. There are greater sins than that on a competition stage. Maybe your wife was wearing a suit or accessories that violated their rules. Maybe your wife had greater muscle but came in grossly deconditioned. Maybe your wife had JUDGES SUCK tattoed across her forehead. How the heck could we know? Because you didn't post a competition photo of both of them. Did you ask the judges at the time??? You might have gotten some useful feedback from that.
OP also stated that the girl who placed above your wife "didn't win by a long shot", so it sounds like they were both near, or at, the bottom of the class. Does it really matter who came in last or second to last? In either position, it means you need to do your homework and bring a better package to the stage next time, not waste several years bitching about someone who did slightly less bad than you did.
Oh and by the way OP, if you're going to get that offended by the results of subjective judging, don't compete in events that are judged subjectively.

This is kind of off topic from the OP but I've been following this thread. As a total newbie and beginner, I see so many threads and posts that say in this wold, people aren't Judgy McJudgersons and clearly, that is not the case. I'm weak and skinny fat, and now I wonder if there are people like the OP at the gym getting annoyed that I'm there or thinking I should pack it up and go home.
From my perspective, it took a lot for that girl to gather the courage to even get up on the stage. Most of us don't even have that in us. Then she gets her picture plastered in a forum with a lot of negativity. . .she definitely didn't ask for that.
Sorry if that was inappropriate for me to say but as a total newbie, reading this post was really disheartening.

Please don't think that.
Honestly people in the BB community (and here on these forums) are usually super welcoming and helpful to beginners. It has been my experience anyway. If you go to the most jacked guy in the gym (or woman) and ask for advice, those are the ones who are usually more than willing to help.
What is inappropriate was for the OP to post this girl's picture.Mom of two boys. Natural competitor.

Yes, he SAYS that...but look at the pic, the heals, the bathing suit, the girls in the background...that’s bikini.
He has no pics to back up his story (he could blur his wife’s face...although I don’t understand the secrecy, or modesty if she was onstage), and his profile was started just to post this (odd) thread. I tell you, it stinks of something other than what he says it is.
But I really shouldn’t bother posting. I’m sure he’s getting a good laugh in his troll cave every time I get upset that he’s bashing some poor girl that probably doesn’t deserve it, and can’t defend herself.Last edited by grubman; 01-17-2019 at 12:29 PM.

Not necessarily. He did say it was the INBF. The INBF does *not* have a traditional Physique division, as you would expect to find in other feds. What they have is Bikini, Figure, and a division called Ms Fit Body, which is kinda sorta Physique-y except heels are actually required and jewelry is allowed.

Then I guess it just compounds his lie(s).
I just find the whole thing fishy. Creates profile, comes to the WOMAN’S forum for his one and only thread, bitches about wife’s placing from a contest YEARS ago...not just her placing, but posts picture of girl who placed above her, INSULTING her body, suit, personality. Has no problem posting picture of girl he met ONCE, at one show, for how many minutes?...but won’t post picture of lineup...because he’s afraid I want to “oogle” his wife. You know, heaven forbid I look at and critique a bodybuilder...on a bodybuilding forum...after she had no problem going onstage....AND looks better than the girl pictured (and apparently all the comparably built women in the background).
Even if the whole thing isn’t a troll thread, it’s very petty and imature, and just mean to talk smack about someone (and post their picture unbeknownst to her) just because she placed better than his wife. And how can we agree with him, believe him, or sympathize when he has no pictures, no proof, and no forum credibility?
Oh well, people can think what they want. This thread has left a bad taste in my mouth. I think I’ll unsubscribe and forget it ever happened.
