    Thoughts on Thomas DeLauer?

Thomas DeLauer: is he a quack?

I watch his videos, find them informative, but since nowadays so many youtube videos have "SCIENCE" in their title, when it's just random people who have no academic background, is DeLauer "legit"?

His videos are full of nonsense. Don't believe anything he says about fasting, keto or anything else.

He's retarded. There's a reason his info is 'quick'... he panders to the least common denominator. But if you're sucking on that KETO-fad teet, then I'm sure he's right up your ally.

If you want a good YouTube channel, try the Team3DMJ channel, biolayne, renaissance prioritization, etc.

I would agree with the tendency to cherrypick, as almost all advocats for a certain diet do so unfortunately, however IF for example is widely accepted as very beneficial healthwise. I guess it's always a case of "who knows their **** the most" to know who to believe... which is why the absence of an academic background in many "nutrition youtubers" does not help with credibility.

IF helps some people create a caloric deficit by shortening their eating window. Its also less optimal from maximizing protein synthesis since you're not consuming any while fasting. The vast majority of its touted benefits are BS and/or insignificant in healthy populations.

I personally do IF for my acne, not sure if it has really helped, but apparently it's beneficial for insulin sensitvitiy, reducing inflammation, auto****y, all those big words. Question is, how can the average Joe be for sure? Sources matter..

Edit: IF prolongs the significant boost of HGH we experiene during sleep up until the first meal of the day. Not sure if this is really of any substance for building muscle though

All of those things are positively affected by reducing calories whether you do that through IF or not is up to you. The acute boost in HGH does nothing for building muscle.

Widely accepted? not at all. In fact you'll be hard pressed to find a single study in humans where IF had meaningful health benefits without caloric restriction.

Listening to Layne Norton podcasts mostly regarding IF. I don't have them on hand but the acute boosts in HGH and/or testosterone topic comes up frequently on these boards and had been shot down with studies repeatedly.

IF increases HGH but not enough to have a significant effect on hypertrophy.

IF decreases testosterone but not enough to have a significant effect on hypertrophy.

IF decreases 24h muscle protein balance, enough to make it a suboptimal choice for maximising muscle growth.

Seriously? You saw everything he wrote and settled on THAT?

Did you ignore the "not enough to have a significant effect on hypertrophy"?

Let's put this another way... getting 1hr less sleep tonight than you did yesterday will decrease Test, but also not enough to show a noticeable difference.

Are you going to get your panties in a bunch over this fact?

Test levels move around throughout the day depending on countless factors you cannot control, so trying to manipulate them with any meaningful impact via time-controlled feeding isn't a good use of your time. You're better off getting better sleep, eating well, lifting, and staying not fat.

Nah relax mate, its just that I have read countless times that IF raises testosterone, just trying to make sense of it, 'tis all. I'm aware there are larger contributors to test. levels. I will take a look at the link above. I am willing to read as many serious studies as I can on these topics, not always easy finding the correct information online

Edit: I currently IF not for my muscle gains, but for other reasons. But I'm trying to understand how much of a difference IF and fasted lifting makes (concerning muscle gains) compared to non-fasting

Well everyone has already told you....

Have you ever seen, heard of, or read Eric Helms' versions of the Muscle & Strength Pyramids? I suggest you give them a look...

Bottom-line, training fasted vs fed, restricting your feeding to a limited specific window, etc, only makes a difference in the context of individual convenience and it's subjective effects on training ability.

In other words, if your daily nutrition goals are met in such a way that makes you happy and able to perform YOUR PERSONAL BEST in the gym given all variables going on in your life, then do it.

Beyond those two aspects (personal preference and gym performance), when you eat your daily nutrients simply does not matter.

    Which ones?
mostly convenience/morning productivity and trying to rid my acne. Just gotten used to it now tbh and I'm never hungry before 12pm... but that can change with time again if I need it to

Right so if its convenient and works for you that's great. The problem isn't with IF itself, its with zealots like DeLaur who think IF is the cure to everything, works for everyone, and has all these unsubstantiated super benefits.

I'm guessing he doesn't even believe it himself but he knows that when he presents balanced objective information his Youtube videos will be boring and he will lose views.

Are you familiar w/ Dr. Eric Berg (youtube). Another very "passionate" keto IF "Dr." and according to his videos cutting carbs and doing IF seems to be the solution to everything. Not that all his videos are BS, but I believe it's important for viewers to question these people and the information they are presenting... can be pretty misleading.

Eric Berg... you mean the chiropractor masquerading as a doctor and offering advice on subjects he knows nothing about?

Eaxctly. It's well known that you have to "sell out" to make money in this industry. There are precious few that can do it and maintain their integrity - and they will never have as many IG followers as the sellouts and hype merchants.

Yes, very misleading indeed. Keeps insisting being in ketosis is important for fat loss, while the scientific evidence clearly shows it's not important at all.
