How much protein do you really need

I weigh 205 lbs and I eat about 120-140 grams of quality protein a day through food don’t want to take any supplements some people tell me I need to start supplementing protein and that I’m not getting enough is this true?

Most people recommend 1g per pound of body weight. I would recommend being at 0.8g-1g per pound of lean body mass.
Supplement a good diet: don't diet on supplements.

I would say this is a good minimum. More is better but no need to go overboard like some people do.

To KISS, I like 0.8-1g/lb of bodyeweight. Estimating lean body mass and bodyfat % is difficult and unreliable. That's most likely more than needed, but for most guys it's not hard to get to that number and there's no question it's enough, even if some of the food falls short of the protein you think it has

This. It depends on what your training is like OP. Basically what I was trying to say is you need to aim for at least that, and you seem to be falling short.

It doesn’t matter if you’re consuming 30 grams of protein… or 300 grams of protein -- if you don’t have a sufficient supply of enzymes to digest the protein, your muscles will be starving for those vital building blocks.

I have most of my less active clients on a 0.8 - 1 gram per body lb daily. Those that are more active and push themselves harder i recommend 1-1.5 gram. Remember to keep your carbs and good fats up there as well. They are just as important. Good luck
