    Loose Skin

    What up y’all, I’m new to the forum. Anyway, I’m looking to lose some weight and get pretty shredded for summer. Started yesterday. My question is I’m about 5’8 to 5’9 and 21 yo and weigh about 210 lbs. according to a scale, I’m around 23% body fat. I’m looking to get to about 160-170 (whatever makes me look lean but not look like a skinny ass); is loose skin inevitable if I were to lose 40-50 lbs in about 4 to 5 months? I’ll be doing cardio and weights 5-6 days out of the week. Pretty cool to start this whole forum thing.

    Loose skin is really determined person by person, there is no hard and fast rule. A lot of it is determined by the size of the person, age (younger people have better skin elasticity), and rate of weight loss (slow and controlled weight loss is best). Typically to avoid muscle loss you would want to aim for 1% of your bodyweight per week (so for you about 2 lbs max per week).

    Here's a few things you need to do to prevent loose skin:
    1 - Build muscle instead of doing cardio
    2 - Follow a high protein diet
    3 - Take hydrolyzed collagen (or gelatin) and vitamin C

    Research shows that, that gelatin can stimulate the production of collagen and improve skin elasticity. I personally find hydrolyzed collagen type 1 and/or type 3 more effective.
