Aside from Paul and Harry, characters are all greedy charmless unlovable backseat villains, where are those good people? The story lacks punch. While pace was fast, there was no court room drama in this book. To me this is the first un-re-readable book in this series. *shrug*

I live in Chiba prefecture (One of the locations in William Gibson's "Neuromancer"'.) within a one hour train ride of Tokyo (where I worked).

Sorry, I read mangas just until my early 20s (1980s). Though I myself never watched or read "Akira", it was one of the most famous ones at that time.

Rather my favorites were "Kung Fu Panda", "Shrek", "Monsters, Inc", etc.....not much fan of Japanese Animes. Probably it is because of too much exposure to them?

Finished "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman 2 days ago and started "You and Me Forever" by Francis Chan last night and should have it finished by Wednesday at the latest. Will probably be reading a few books on marriage this year as I'm getting married in December. As a daily reader I'm doing the "Love Dare" and I also started listening to "Can't Hurt Me" by David Goggins.

Hearing the World War Z audiobook right now. I am not really the person able to concentrate on audiobooks for hours, much different with books..
Reading the honest liar by Rafik Schami as well, it is a simple, feeling good book with many anecdotes. I find it interesting to learn about the oriental culture. It is definitely not a book I'd recommend to anyone not interested in orientalistic/middle east.

Started book #1 last night. Confessions of a Street Addict by Jim Cramer. I know Cramer is seen as kind of a blowhard now, but before the tv show and all the theatrics he was a big time hedge fund manager with a major love for the market. This is the book that made him famous and I look forward to reading about his rise to fame.

    2. Service of All the Dead (Inspector Morse #4) - ****n Dexter 7/10

Boyos, been on a bit of a mystery novel kick lately. I don't know if any of you have watched the series Inspector Morse, but it's based on ****n Dexter's novels.

    I love these books because
#1, my dad turned me on to them, so it's kinda cool reading books that my dad read "in another life"
#2, big fan of the English countryside and Dexter's imagery is extremely descriptive without being overbearing
#3 Inspector Morse is the perfect combination of romantic/chauvinistic pig

Hopefully I'll get thru the entire series books this year. i believe there's 14 or 15 in total.

In this book, the church warden (guy who counts the money collected at mass) is stabbed during mass while counting money! Also, the priest whomst conducted the mass jumps from the top of the highest tower of the church a month later. Strangely enough, the organist and the church warden's wife both leave town at the same time shortly thereafter. But don't fear, Inspector Morse and Sgt. Lewis are on the case!!!

    Spoiler!

edit: apparently you cant spell Collin with one L on this forum for some reason

Finished #1 of my goal of 156 books this year. Overall thought Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises was a decent read, more interesting how he's able to navigate the plot successfully without following the conventional narrative structure. The ending at the fiesta went a completely different direction than I expected, as I assumed it would be the typical "happy" ending, albeit it is and it isn't at the same time.

    1. The Taking - Dean Koontz

Worst book he has written that I have read. I really like him and this one was just awful.

I agree. I'm a big Koontz fan but I really didn't like that book.

I love Koontz, but he does have quite a few books I couldn't stand.

The Odd Thomas series is my favorite offering from him. Consider reading those books if you haven't done so already.

Yeah I have the same experience with him. I liked The Taking, loved phantoms, watchers, winter moon, hated intensity and fear nothing.

    Finished 1Q84 Book Two today:

Book one fell flat after a promising start IMO, but this was more consistent and eventful. The worldbuilding could've been stronger, but the mystery is unravelling well and I'm invested in the fates of Tengo and Aomame. Jumped straight into Book three.

#1 Season of Storms (The Witcher Series) by Andrzek Sapkowski 3.5/5
This was definitely my least favorite of the series, but it's still a perfectly enjoyable Witcher tale if you've enjoyed the rest of the series.

I started Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa last night, and so far I recommend each and every reader in this thread consider picking up a copy. I'm really looking forward to taking a nice day off to just sit, read, and be completely absorbed in the book.

+1 on Musashi. Read it last year and it's such an enjoyable book to get lost in. Really loved his writing style and the end is epic.

Halfway thru The Force right now, another awesome novel from Don Winslow.

    I'll bite.

Just finished How to Change Your Mind--Michael Pollan. Very interesting insights into the science behind how psychedelics alter the chemistry in the brain and how it correlates with combating depression and addiction. The book could have been much shorter though.

Did listen to two short documentaries on Storytel:
The murder of Hitler's executioner (the butcher of Prague)
MI6 - for the queen and the motherland

The Butcher of Prague, wow. The repercussions for killing him was indeed severe.
Interesting to have such small pieces to listen to. Both were around 20 minutes each.
Finished two on a walk with my new pair of noise cancelling headphones. A very pleasant experience so far.
You aren't tough with few hours of sleep. You're just killing yourself.
You're also missing out on gains, brains and energy.
