I have to say something here because its somewhat dishonest, but mainly just missing the point. A quick history:
2008 - After Obama was elected, in December of 2008 the Fed dropped the rate to the lowest rate in history.
2009 - No change. This was only the 2nd time since 1970 that the fund rate didn't change at all. The other year was 1993 after Clinton took office.
2010 - No change again. First time in modern history that the fed rate didn't change 2 years in a row.
2011 - No change again. Interdasting.
2012 - No change again.
2013 - No change again.
2014 - No change again.
2015 - After an unheard of 6 year span of no change, while also being at the lowest rates in history...the fed bumps the rate slightly in December 2015.
2016 - After Trump is elected in December of 2016, the fed bumps the rate again.
2017 - Trump takes office. The fed bumps the rate 3 times in his first year after not touching it for the first 6+ years of Obama's presidency.
2018 - The fed bumps the rates 3 more times, or for math majors that means the rate was bumped 6 times more in Trump's first 2 years than in Obama's first 6+ years. Its 3 times more than Obama had during his entire presidency.

Voters did the equivalent of this: an employer hired them, and they pissed on his desk.
“Let’s put Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters in charge! Yeah, that’ll work..rein in that mean Drumpf with his...3.7% unemployment and tax cuts! Didn’t Nancy promise to reverse those tax cuts! That’s what I want...more taxes and regs because THAT’S the way to prosperity!!!!”“From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd—
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother...”

I have been looking at the 5 year chart for a while and thinking that 22,500 to 23,500 would be a more reasonable price at this time.
I kind of hope it gets to 22,000 again so I can feel better about putting a bit more in.Eat in a deficit to lose weight.

So basically the economy was doing fine with the rate increases until Trump decided to launch a trade war and tariffs, both which are directly cited in recently quarterlies as being the headwinds for the earnings / revenue guidance cuts of American businesses.
The feds mandate is inflation and full employment. Not to goose the stock market.

Rate hikes are always followed by a recession after hitting a peak. You could argue, that rate hikes cause recessions. Its as if....they want a recession...just like...Bill Maher wanted a recession to oust Trump in 2020! Obama enjoyed virtually no rate hikes for the majority of his presidency. That is unheard of. Even Bubba enjoyed long periods of no rate hikes... There will be a recession under Trump, and the fed will be the cause of it.EMT/Firefighter Crew

Or.. it could be that every time a Republican takes office we eventually have a recession, then a Democrat takes office and bails us out back into prosperity, and then another Rep takes over and fuks things up, and the cycle continues. And maybe, maybe, the Feds just increase the rates after the Dems recover the economy and lower them after the Reps fuk it up again..

if you're confused as to what the relationship between interest rates and inflation is, then maybe phone a friend? or do some more learning on the purpose of the fed? here's a good link: https://www.businessinsider.com/how-...-rates-2017-12

Not sure why....
Ice actually did a decent job here. He is showing that the Fed did not raise interest rates in 2015 and 2016 because inflation was sub 2%. One of the Fed's primary goals is to spread out the peaks and valleys of market events. Deflation is bad and high inflation is also bad. Rates were kept way low for so long because they had to be. (Because raising them would cause deflation) However, we are nearing a new market crash/recession if past trends have any baring at all. If the fed doesn't have a way to cut interest rates when that event happens it will be bad.
Currently the fed is working hard to keep the inflation rate at 2% which is fiscally sound. Even though it may bring the new market crash/recession a little sooner. Typical economic cycle is 7 years and we are at 10. People get stupid when they think of the market as a "sure thing".
