Thanks so much to NEBinAK and all the reps and crew at Scivation for sending me out a tub of the new Xtend Pro Whey Isolate in Cookie Butter. I was really excited to try the newly rebranded and introduced Xtend protein because I know Scivation puts out great products, and they always nail the flavors. Cookie Butter was my first choice of flavors because I just love PB flavors. So here is my take:
A nice, clean powder, and actually more like a blend as far as consistency goes.
PROFILE: The profile looks pretty good. It has a pretty standard 120 calories per serve. The fats and carbs are all in line with a typical isolate. What I don't get is the addition of 7g of BCAAs. Protein powders already have BCAAs, so I am not sure why more need to be added. Also, does this count against the 25g of protein claimed on the label? All questions I need to follow up on, but haven't had a chance. Otherwise the profile is great.
MIXABILITY/TEXTURE: It mixes super easily with just a few shakes in a blender bottle with the wisk ball. I tried it several ways. I used just 10 oz of cold water with one serving of powder, 8 oz of fairlife 2%, and also tried 8 oz of fairlife with 2 oz of cold water. My favorite was the fairlife/water mixture. The milk really made the flavor shine, and the water thinned it out a bit, which I tend to like more. If you like a thicker shake, 8 oz of liquid would probably suit you. I found the texture to be excellent for an isolate, and more along the lines of even a blend. The addition of the peanut flour made for a nice bit of mouthfeel and made it more thick.
TASTE: I found the flavor to be along the lines of a vanilla base, with a solid peanut to it, and a hint of cookie in the finish. Overall it did have a great pb cookie flavor, but the vanilla type base was more prevalent upfront. The addition of the peanut flour really makes this protein shine, and in all, it really makes the flavor live up to the Cookie Butter name. I think this flavor was really well done, and is unique to me, but I haven't tried every pb cookie protein out there. I would be interested in hearing more reviews from others who may have tried more of this type of flavor. I haven't tried it in strained yogurt as of yet, but I will update when I do.
OVERALL: 9/10
I really did, and will continue to enjoy this protein. I want to drill down to a few more facts on the profile, as I mentioned. All of the above factors I reviewed on make this protein a solid 9/10. I won't try to review on the efficacy of the protein, and I am not one that can say one protein "works" better than another. I can say that I am usually a fan of blends, more for the consistency and flavor. I feel Xtend is very close to a blend in those categories. I felt no ill effects, stomach discomfort or bloating, or any other problems with this protein. The price point is definitely affordable, especially with the sale going on now. I am interested in trying the other flavors, as I am sure they are also well done.
Thanks for reading
