    Cycling and weight training

Been trying to gain a little more all over mass so that i can produce more power in cycling. Been struggling with putting any size on at all for the past 3 months. Any advice on how to balance weight training and cycling would be much appreciated.

Spending a lot of time in the gym will probably hurt your cycling. I would just through a couple of 30 minute 'all over' weight workouts into the mix twice a week, or simply do core strength training more often.

Do you do HIIT training on the spin bike, stationary bike, air assault bike or hill sprints? Try doing these HIIT sessions 2x a week, as well as the above advice. Good luck!

Inho, spending "a lot" of time in the gym might be counterproductive. But DCSpartan is right regarding full body resistance/strength training.

No it wouldnt. Lots of cyclists, especially sprint cyclists, spend a lot of time in the gym.

Mark Twight was able to transition from being a world class climber to a reasonably competitive mountain biker and still made progress with weights.

OP, a full body workout 3 days a week (maybe one day a week on legs) would probably do you some good. Pick a beginner's routine and blend it into your training.

Also remember that the mere fact of weighing more will mean you need more power output to achieve the same forward propulsion. This is especially true on hills where your W/kg output is the main factor in whether you get up it or not.
