Beginner Looking to Build muscle In the fastest way

okay so i’m 16 right now and planning on beginning weightlifting as i feel it’s the time to get big and have the body ive always wanted. I’m about 5’8/5’9 and weight approximately 142 LBS. Physique wise, I have relatively small arms and chest and all, but could consider myself as “ skinny fat “ since i do have a gut, especially when i let it out.

So anyways i’ve been looking at some beginner routines and all pros beginner routine is one that constantly comes up.
Would this be the best workout for me, compared to like a upper/lower split? My goal is to gain huge muscle mass overall.

And for whichever routine I do choose, how long would it be ideal to do it for? Like how long until i should progress to a intermediate routine?

Pick any of the beginner's routine and follow it consistently.

consistency + intensity >>>> which specific beginners program you chose.

all beginner routines in the stickies are great, if you like the look of allpros then do it.

You change routines once you stall on the program.

Fierce 5 full body for 6 months or until you stall. Then switch to the intermediate upper/lower. Nice and simple even though everyone likes to complicate things with bro science.

All pros is also a great program.

your nitpicking now and obsessing! i do it and everyone else has too at one time!! BUT what matters is a novice program that you can see yourself motivated throughout, untill you can not progress anymore!! this is a lifestyle. not just something you can run untill you feel like you look great, and then quit! cuz you will go back to square one!! like i said choose one that you can see yourself being motivated with!

Read the stickies and look around at reputable novice routines such as Fierce 5, Starting Strength, All Pros, Greyskulls LP etc. Pick one and follow it. Check Nutrition Forum stickies. Track calories and carbs/fat/protein daily, as well as bodyweight. (www.myfitnesspal.com is popular for this)

    fixed

If you do all that, expect to add 15 pounds of muscle your first year, another 15 your 2nd, 10-12 your 3rd, and 5-10 your 4th. You'll also add some body fat along the way, but you'll be able to drop that during your 5th year by running a proper bodybuilding cut---something you'll actually be ready for by then.

If you are among the very few who can do all this for the next 4-5 years without fail, by then, you'll weigh 180-190 with decent abs, and all the strength in the world; you'll look like an entirely different person.

.......if you are among the very few.

would you help clearing up another question i have?

You mentioned 15 LBS of muscle in the first year, and also that I should eat enough to
gain 2-4 lbs each month. so is the 2-4 lbs that i gain each month body fat? Or a bit of both?

It will be both muscle and fat.

And, no, I don't recommend eating just enough to barely gain weight in a misguided effort to gain minimal fat along with muscle. Historically, those who try to do this end up gaining nothing, and subsequently quit in frustration due to lack of any progress at all. This forum is littered with posts complaining of that very thing.

You are right in the midst of the most hormonally-advantageous time of your entire life; due to your age, you currently have the ability to gain muscle at the fastest rate you'll ever be able to do so, but only if you work hard and provide your growing body with plenty of raw materials---protein, carbs, and fat.

There's no need for someone your age to get too hung-up on calories and macros; just eat all the meals provided for you, and ask for seconds whenever you can eat more. As long as you see a steady increase in your body weight (as mentioned above), that'll be plenty enough nutritional detail for you for now.
    No brain, no gain.

thanks man, i rlly appreciate the reply. changed my mind, and decided to do all pros beginner routine instead.

would only bench press 3 times a week be enough to grow my chest a lot bigger? the rules state that i should only add 1 extra exercise if needed after three full cycles ( 15 weeks )

If you're going to follow a pre-written program (and it's highly recommended to do so), follow the program as-written; don't make changes. You'll make your best gains by sticking to the plan.

Bench 3 times per week, and the other exercises some of which do use your chest, with progressive overload and consistently gaining weight from food, will grow your everything a lot over time

One step at a time...especially since the majority who ask those questions never stick to it long enough for answers to matter.

You're looking at months at a time minimum.

You probably should be spending this time and mental energy working on your form and diet/nutrition planning for the here and now. Besides, if you stick to it with dedication for long enough that answers to those questions matter, you will have learned a lot to help you answer them yourself by that time

the thing is that the program is only 3 days a week ( cardio and abs on off days ) but I was planning on waking up at 5 every morning to work out. What else is there for me to do then on the remaining 4 days as i want to build muscle mass and strength as fast as possible. I’m 16 and like people have mentioned, this is the time for me to build muscle at the best rate.

Also since i’m going to be in a bulk, how long should i keep gaining weight for until i should cut to look shredded

Will you be going to bed by like 9pm every day? If not, definitely the best use of the morning hours those other days is sleep.

    Just follow the program.

You don't build muscle in the gym.

Don't worry about how long until you can check back 3+ months from now having followed the program as written while eating and sleeping well consistently since then. Then we can tlak about how many more months it might be

    yeah that’s makes sense.

i just feel like doing other things on those 4 off days as i was planning on waking up early and working out before going to school. For the days i do abs workouts, would it be fine to do some with weights? or just circuits?

    Do the program

You don't need to do more.

You just need to actually do the program as it is consistently over time with good nutrition and rest. Which you probably won't. I'd wager $ you don't check back in 6 months having followed the program since then. Almost nobody does. So, do that.

I'd strongly urge you, with all your extra time, to go read through all the pages of the AllPro thread, have a pen and paper handy to take notes. Educate yourself because it tends to stick in your brain longer when you actually earn it, as opposed to having it handed to you.

From the AP thread (by the kind gentleman who spends hours of his time helping others by answering their questions):

SLDL should be lower than squat, and should be able to get well past the knee with a straight back
OHP should be at least 60% of bench

For a healthy male, this takes 5-7 cycles. If you start with a bmi of 19-20 and cant overcome your eating habits its going to take longer. If you are bmi of 30, you may already have that 10-15lbs of n00b muscle, and need to focus on dropping that 40-50lbs of fat. If you think you will progress on lifts while not gaining or losing body weight, you will have a sad sad time.

i appreciate the info and will definitely take time to learn about it more before beginning. i also understand that while i’ll gain lots of muscle mass due to noob gains, i will have to put on some body fat too. I’m 16 years old currently but after doing this all pros beginner routine while bulking, do you think i should cut after? so that my abs and rest of my muscles will show

    Do it first, then see.

Follow the program and eat to grow.

If you are going to be this obsessed with visible abs, let's face it, you're probably going to be scrawny and weak for life.

That's all going to depend on how much you put into it. If you think halfassed workouts, nutrition and recovery are going to pack muscle onto your frame, you're going to be disappointed. Don't spend your time worrying about things that are yet to happen. Concentrate on what you're doing now.

School, eating, lifting, getting proper rest, and most importantly, be someone you're parents are proud of.

Inevitably you'll go through a cutting phase, then another bulk, lather-rinse-repeat.

It sounds as you are half listening to the golden advice you have received today. You need to remove phrases such as 'lots of muscle' 'fast gains' & cutting! This is real life and you'll find out real quick, those aren't going to happen for at least 5 to 8 years depending on your dedication to this journey. Enjoy this time and don't get too hung up on the end goal or you'll just set yourself up for failure. I've been doing this for 30 years and I am still learning.
