Just examine your diet and delete something simple like that extra slice of bread or bowl of cereal. Small changes will get you good results.
Drastic diets are for women because they know they cannot stick to them."To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

Those sorts of diets usually don't work because by the time you achieve any meaningful fat loss your metabolism is already trashed and you're probably extremely nutrient deficient by that point also. If you want an idiot-proof way to diet quickly I would eat oily fish, meat and eggs only at 500 cals under your previous maintenance. Basically Vince Gironda's diet, nothing changes in 60 years. The interesting thing about such a animal diet is you can use hunger as a reliable gauge of calories since your blood sugar is very stable. Eat before you're hungry = bulk. Eat when you feel hunger = maintain. Eat after prolonged hunger = cut.

I've read that's a myth. In fact, I believe most studies show the opposite - that your metabolism increases as you fast. It makes sense. I have the most energy when I'm fasted, and I can't sleep worth sh!t.
What if you got tired and sleepy when you got hungry? You wouldn't have the energy to go hunt your next meal. You get tired and sleepy after eating, not before.Operation Swole.

your metabolism does Infact slow down, but most of it is due to the amount of weight you lost (even in the starvation experiment people try to use as evidence for it existing, the subjects BMR dropped to near what it should be with the weight loss and reduction of LBM) rather than due to the drop in calories itself. The restlessness from fasting is actually due to an upregulation of orexin from your insulin levels being out of whack. It's a nice boost of artificial energy but does cause insomnia for me when I do heavy CR.
