NASA’s Insight Mars Lander is going to happen today. 7 minutes of terror refers to the 7 minutes the lander descends into Mars' atmosphere at 12,000mph, then as a result of the extreme speed, it goes through extreme heat before the parachute deploys, still at supersonic speeds. Then, the parachute is supposed to release and the rockets are supposed to fire up to bring the lander to a 5mph safe landing, if all goes according to plan. This all happens in approximately 7 minutes.
Only 300 million miles away.
We can watch it all live, here: https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/#public

I’ll be watching if I can. This mission won’t have the long term panache of a rover, but it will fill in some big gaps in our knowledge.
Eventually, it would be nice to have a global network of seismometers there so we can get a detailed view of its structure.“Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.”

Teslas would have the advantage. But, the very extreme temperatures, as in on average, the temperature on Mars is about minus 80 degrees Fahrenheit, depending where you are. In winter, near the poles temperatures can get down to minus 195 degrees F.
A new version of Tesla would have to be developed in cooperation with NASA. I'll make a call.Helping one person may not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.

We all watched Total Recall back in the day, and saw just how grim it is to live on Mars. Elon can keep it I say...
Planet's got no significant magnetic field so it will always be blown by solar winds (thin atmosphere, high radiation, cold) it's just substandard. You'd have to live underground. But a 45lb plate from earth would weigh 17lbs so think how strong we'd look, maybe that's why Arnold went there.Last edited by OldFartTom; 11-26-2018 at 11:57 PM.
