What business to start with 30k or less SRS

Looking for some inspiration fellas. Currently not working with around 30k of blow money. I don't want to go back to the rat race and feel the world is my oyster to go it alone.

Currently decided I will open a food truck business as through contacts I can get in at an awesome location in central London. Open to different ideas though.

Obviously it will be starting small on 30k but I want the potential for it to scale to CEO 10k a day one day.

Whats a business to start in 2019? What would you guys do if you could right now? Help me escape the rat race forever. Best idea can come work with me as Co CEO when I make it.

    In before suck dink professionally.

30k is chit for starting a business unless you're a tradie and already own a truck for a personal/work vehicle.

just invest, if you want to start a legit business you'll need atleast 200k and be willing to leverage it.

Not true brother. I opened a Hamburger Diner from scratch for 50k a couple of years back and did well out of it, sold it for a profit. I have more cash but its banked to buy a house, I want to start something small that I can scale.

Open to investing and have done in the past but where should I be looking.

30k seems very small amount, even for a food truck. I suppose if you have a great location, great product, high demand it could work but ideally you’re going to need some investors for inevitable setbacks and unforeseen costs. Good luck.

There's a lot of opportunities in the tech world but since you mention food trucks I doubt that's your area of expertise. Really depends on your skills and facilities.

If I weren't in tech I'd make rustic wooden tables for the upper class, they sell for $10K and up and it's rewarding work. I may transition into something like that down the line, or timber framing.

I have a cool idea with low start up. Can get a van converted for a very good price and yeah the location is amazing. I know it would be great, but just wanted to keep my options open and not 100% sure I want to go back into food. Its hard dirty work with unsociable hours.

Great post man. Yeah unfortunately I'd both blow and suck at the same time in tech. Also nobody would want a table I made in their home lol!

I would have suggested REI but I don't know chit about the UK housing market. Don't do the food truck, I had a family member own one and it is very costly in terms of maintenance and overall expenses. To be honest, $30k will only get you so far in terms of starting a new business. Maybe just stick to investing, and even if you're not an active trader just throw it in an etf or mutual. Good luck opie

Thanks for the replies fellas. I guess for now food truck is the way for me to go. I appreciate the concerns with that but given the great location available to me and the deal on getting a van converted I think it's the best option available to me right now.

I don't know too much about the food indrustry, but I imagine the food truck/pop-up scene is saturated to all hell in London. Few of my FB friends are doing it, but I just can't see it being a viable source of income.

Do you have any tech/design skills? See sig.

You could always go the China import and flip route - lots of misc brahs make BANK doing that.

Disagree with the caveat being the food is really tasty and most who try it once will be regulars.

e-commerce/dropshipping until you learn a market and someone elses product then start your own. Start brand and pump money into branding. You can also buy one from flippa or empire flippers that you think has potential and pump some money into SEO/marketing/sales funnels or use affiliates/influencers/PPC. It's a bit saturated but a cost effective way to get into a business due to your capital restrictions. It's very hard to just walk into an industry and do well so itll take time. If it fails, you didn't lose much and you came out with experience to take to the next venture. Every big entrepreneur/business owner that you see has a multiple of failed businesses that they learned from to apply to their current success.

Side note, typically want to budget 50k or so just for product development/testing in addition to everything else if you go that route. I know you mentioned food trucks so that's also a bit capital intensive. Think insurances and all that jazz as well. Also you're limited to one truck alone so you'll need help to scale and with employees you open up another can of worms. Try contracting out if possible for liability purposes and peace of mind until you're established.

Would also advise starting something small on the side for nights and weekends and leave 'the rat race' when it really takes off because you're going to face a lot of pressure if you just quit and try to start something...

The fact that youre motivated shows that you have the potential, just have to be smart with your capital, time and effort. Good luck OP, were all going to make it!

Why bother working so hard to create wealth for your first and (if lucky) second round investors instead of yourself? You go the fundraising route and that's going to be your fulltime job.

with that little startup cash I'd say investing in other businesses is a better bet to grow it. there's a bunch of websites that make it easy seedinvest, wefunder etc where you can be a tiny version of shark tank and invest in others.

that or save up more money, 50K is a more realistic number to get a decent business of the ground brah.
