    Getting weaker not stronger

    Hello all
New on here be gentle with me.
I’m 50 I started lifting weights 4 months ago to build strength for my Muay Thai training and so I don’t get injured so much in the interclub fights, I was 15 stone fat last year and decided to lose that and took up Muay Thai and am now 12 stone leaner😊 I’ve found that I’ve now become weaker and hurt more especially doing the bench press, in actual fact I feel like I can’t bench press coz it hurts my shoulders a lot.
I’ve changed my arm positions but I’ve gone from lifting 60 kilos down to 50 kilos and struggle with that.
Any advice , am I too old? Or is it diet? Or some health issue 😳😳😳

Hard to say without knowing more about your routine. I will say this though....if your shoulders are chronically in pain from bench pressing, then you need to fix that quickly...otherwise, you'll be setting yourself up for more problems down the road. Given your experience level, I am guessing it is either a technique issue or a problem with an imbalanced push/pull routine....but again, tough to say without more detail.
