pull up elbows got sore over time

    Hi all,

My muscles just before the elbow got so sore that after pull ups I couldn't do a curl on my left arm, my right arm was sore also.
I took two weeks off, came beck last week 50% weights no pull ups, and a small amount of chin ups.

Today (the forth week) tried a few pull ups, and bamO, it got sore fast.
Pretty sure that's the culprit of the injury.

So why is that happening? and how can I prevent it.

Thinks I notice with my pull ups is I go to failure, and hold the pull up after my reps and drag the failure out, is that it?
Also I do ((full range of motion)), and My body comes away from the bar and my arms bent a bit, it seems weird, like a preying mantis a bit? but it puts me into that position when I do them.
    I don't feel like I'm in a tight positions.

anyone got why this is happening and how to fix it.

    Thank you.

    Shayne.

Sounds like golfer's elbow. Recovery is slow and unsure.

-Massage the sore area with the thumb from the opposite arm. Go deep into the tissues. Do this 10 times a day for 30 seconds each side.

-Avoid all Pull Ups, Rows and Chin Ups for 2 weeks.

-Once you get back to Pull Ups, get RINGS (gymnastic ones) and start doing your pulling motions on those. The wrist being forced in place is what causes the elbow injury.

-Improve your grip strength, get those little handles that you can squeeze on, do farmer's walk, etc.

If you do all the above, you will be fixed.

    Thank you all,

    two questions,,,

Can I use straps to take the pressure off the elbow? or just go rings?

And, should I always use rings/straps even after I heal? is there no good reason to use the bar? or am I just weak in certain areas? and when I get stronger my elbow tendons will be fine with the bar?

Thank you all, I watched some videos on this, and what your saying is right.
I just don't know if I should go back to the bar after I heal and get stronger, or just always stay rings/straps/.

Stop doing curls and just do the Chin-ups once it is healthy,

just sounds like tennis elbow and if you are not competing or planning to there would be nothing wrong with using straps on lifts that hurt to avoid tennis elbow in the future
I know nothing factual but only tell the truth

Sounds like you've developed tendinitis. I did the same exact thing from excessive pull ups. I now do three variations of lat pull downs instead and completely abandoned pull ups. I also do hammer curls now instead of traditional dumbbell curls because of the same reason.

My elbows are a chronic issue too, weighted pull-up or most heavy pulling exercises I use versa grips, it helps out tremendously in limiting elbow strain.
