Helmet came in
Purchased this jacket should be in by the 17th
As for the riding I am getting really good, doing the 8 with no problem. I should do really well in the motorcycle safety course which is coming up next week. Hitting 70MPH with no problem and getting used to the winds. At the light I get the jump on cars really quick as I can get to 40, 50 MPH within 2-3 seconds.
I really am enjoying this, best decision I've made.

LOL OK.
I don't think I have that much coordination, riding the scooter and staying focus is enough for me, doing all that changing of gears will be way to distracting for me I would probably kill myself.
Somethings are easier for folks.
At 5???? WTF I have 5 kids 8 grandchildren I can't imagine any of them riding a motorcycle at 5. I would say BS post a video, but you know how that goesOn the list for Bannukah

Both my son and daughter had motorcycles at 5 as well. They have full on race bikes ( motocross) for kids in that age group, and they shift gears while doing it.
I hope you didn’t think I meant riding on the street. Shifting gears is shifting gears though.
When I was a kid, there wasn’t a video camera in everyone’s hand.

Nice. Love old school bikes. Of course, not old school then.
My daughters actual first venture into off roading was her 4th Christmas. It was a used Yamaha 50cc three wheeler.
She was afraid of it. I still have a scar on my shin from flipping it the first time I buzzed it up and down the alley. I was kneeling on it, and the grab bar took a spot of skin off that I didn’t think was possible.
Good times. If you poke a bear in the eye, expect a bear like response.

I am just busting your chops man, I guess things are different in NY, not many people by their kids motorcycles at age 5. Although my grandson does want me to buy him an electric scooter, he is 10 but his mom said no.
I think 8 sounds more reasonable than 5, my granddaughters are 5 and when my grandson was 5 I can't imaging any of them riding a motorcycle of any kind. Awesome pic by the way.Last edited by bodyhard; 10-15-2018 at 07:04 AM.

I know man. . Im actually not unhappy about limited electronic stuff as I grew up, as well as my kids. We never stopped riding, boating, talking, etc to check our phones. OTOH, we probably missed a lot of golden opportunities to look back and laugh at some stuff.
Every now and again, we run across a disposable camera that we never had developed. We are always excited to see what pictures come back in the envelope.
Oh the days of dropping off film to be developed. If you poke a bear in the eye, expect a bear like response.

Yeah, that Yamaha 60cc was pretty advanced for its time since it was a minibike that looked just like the full size Yahama's of that era. It wasn't long after, though, that the YZ 80cc came out and eclipsed the performance of that bike.
My folks held off on getting me a minibike for a couple of years after I started asking for one. I probably began bugging them for one at 6 or so, right after my dad got his first Yamaha (a 175 enduro). He won it in a raffle and that started our love of riding bikes as a family.

My very first motorized vehicle was a 4 hp Minibike. From there it was on. My first foray into racing was on an Rm125. I had to stand on a milk crate to start it...my feet didn’t touch the ground on both sides. Was way too big. Went to an rm80. That was way better. I didn’t have that “I’m not scared of anything” gene, so I never did very well racing. Loved it, but I kind of sucked at it.
As an adult, I tried racing a yz250. I was scared of that bike. Absolute beast. I did trail ride it, but all my friends had four wheelers, so that’s what I did.If you poke a bear in the eye, expect a bear like response.

Man we have almost exactly the same story. My first bike was at 5 but it was a Trail 90 so did not have a clutch. My first motocross bike was at 6 when I got this (not my picture but same bike) brand new for Christmas:
At 12 I upgraded to a 1987 YZ125 which like you I could not touch the ground on so I used our front porch steps to get on and off. At 16 I got a brand new CR125 and began racing motocross though only a few races before parents said 'screw this it's too expensive'.
Began driving my Mom's 4 speed manual VW Rabbit at 12 and like you said, transitioning to a car was easy. Once you understand the clutch and finding the engagement point it's not hard to drive anything with a manual.

I bought my first bike, a used ('70 I think) Suzuki TS-100, at 12 for $200. I had previously ridden cousin's minibikes and a friend's 100 cc bike. A couple of years later I purchased a used (well used) YZ-125.
My parents built a new house when I was 13, and we were jumping off of a 5 foot pile of topsoil in the front yard. Somewhere I have a pick I need to try and dig up.
When I was 15 I was riding on the back of a bike with a friend (we were working at an orchard traveling between locations) when he lost control and I was thrown off the back into a telephone pole. Dislocated my right elbow and broke both lower bones, haven't straitened it since.

So many memories in this thread! If you go to a track you'll see the mini loop off to the side with 5 and 6 year olds on it, seeing them do hoops and dig into the turns is nothing short of amazing, pure naturals at it.
Motorcyle shifting is so easy once you get the hang of it. It's sequential so you have to do them in order.
