For those who paid freight shipping on the Monos

On Rep’s IG post about the monos now shipping ground, manny_9fg asked if those who initially paid freight shipping (him included) could get some kind of discount for use on a future purchase.

    Rep responded with the following:
If you paid freight shipping when the Monolifts first launched, please email orders@repfitness.com and we’ll make it right

There's a garage gym Facebook group that I think is related to him and he's totally idolized (it's like meat heads without any meat). You get stuff like people saying the Titan SSB is the best based solely on his review/opinion which in reality is based on very limited knowledge, very limited history in lifting of any kind, and very limited scope of available equipment to compare as he can't review items that he doesn't own or weren't sent to him for free. I'm not saying his reviews are worthless as if I was in the market for XYZ and he reviewed it, I'd absolutely watch and read to see if I picked anything up as he does a good and comprehensive overview, BUT I'd put a good number of people in this forum up as more fit to review pieces than him. He'd be a data point for me and one best focused on fit/finish/detail as opposed to real function and value of a piece.

I think he gets his recognition also from being one of the first to receive these hot new items which doesn't mean much...it's similar to a kid on the block during childhood that got a brand new bike, or toy and has limited to no knowledge on it, but just shows it off because they have it and the others flock to get a glimpse of said item (overview) as you mentioned.

If you treat Coop's reviews like unboxing videos they aren't so bad. I appreciate getting a look at new equipment. But buying anything based on his recommendation alone is a mistake. He ignores or just misses key issues all the time. Unfortunately, he doesn't call his videos previews or add a disclaimer so oftentimes they end up being a disservice.

That's a fair point, while I do take shots at Coop from time to time in some ways, I also do find some of his vids tolerable to see new items as well with detailed camera angles and views (unboxing and previews would be better descriptions put in there like you said).

The Rogue deep dish plates impressions and review he put out recently was actually pretty good (although you shouldn't be able to screw up a review on plates too bad lol, but nothing appeared to be misleading, nor extremely biased in that video).

At this point, Coop is so bogged down with reviews that he can't even properly review any one of these pieces and give it a reasonably good amount of time with training. This last review of the REP monos was simply as waste of time to just shoot a video and he essentially copied the main talking points that GamecockLifter focussed on his video with the issue being how far the monos come off the posts. I agree with radrd, if you simply look at Coop's videos as unboxing videos, they're easier to deal with and from time to time you may be pleasantly surprised with some good information sprinkled in here and there.

Coop always dropping first unboxing on new products. I take it easier on him. He puts in good effort in production of his videos. While he doesn't go hard on any specific product he does give good advice for the average garage gym owner. Even this rep monolift review he touched upon many of the pain points mentioned here (pins and shipping) . He didn't say it straight out, but he basically told you to buy the rogues without bashing Rep.

Got a dip belt from Rep. Not sure if it is a problem with me or the belt since I never used one before, only weight vests. The dip belt is pretty loose around my waist ~31-32 inches and the weight sways a lot when trying to set up or during dips/pull-ups. Throws me off since I’m trying to stay stable.

Most standard dip belts will have this issue to some degree as the belt rests on your hips/glutes/lower back to suspend weight between your legs. It does not wrap your waist or rest on it. Rogue's is pretty standard for this and when I pulled the Rep picture it looks like an okay belt but hard to tell from pics - seems like the belt and chain are longer than need be which may exacerbate this issue.

    https://www.roguefitness.com/dip-belt
    https://www.repfitness.com/rep-dip-belt

EDIT - Rogue is 30" belt and 30" chain. Rep is 39" belt and likely 39" chain which isn't as heavy (chain length isn't listed but appears as long as the belt and thinner chain the rogue's). All belts will swing weight some but Rogue's is very standard for classic dip belts and Rep's is quite a bit longer which will exacerbate this issue.

Have you tried looping the chain through both ends before putting it around the weight? That pulls the ends of the belt close together and shortens the chain so there is less swaying. Alternatively you can moves the carabiners more proximally along the chain but if the belt is too big for your waist the first option will likely be better.

This is standard. I have both the Rogue multi-belt and Spud dip belt. Both are not snug and the weight is meant to hang.

I'm a big fan of that design where you can tighten the waist, similar idea to the LPG EZ Muscle Dip belt I owned (only cheaper).

Which actually turned out to be pretty damn comfortable as a belt squat belt after I performed surgery on it....

Can't wait to read it! I almost pulled the trigger myself but decided to hold off a little bit longer. I'm a little gun-shy about ordering anything right now. Too much stuff gets banged up around the holidays during shipping.

I hear ya. I've never ordered a bar from Rep (shocking, I know), so we'll see how the packing holds up. I'll post a few pics of the bar when it comes in. I'd like to add the Rep deep knurl power bar this year at some point, so I hope this curl bar lives up to the hype.

Nice! I definitely look forward to the review and pictures, I was gonna take a chance on a Rep product for the first time with this curl bar, but at the time it was out of stock and I went with Rogue's curl bar instead. It's a quality curl bar no doubt...but it leaves some things to be desired (mainly a 30mm instead of 28.5mm bar and definitely stainless steel to go along with the AB Elite SS power bar).

After doing skullcrushers, triceps extensions and curls with my rackable knurled BWTG 2.5" fat curl bar, I find it more comfortable on the wrists (due to the palms open grip) than the thinner 28.5mm, I think 30mm might be perfect for my situation (for a portable non-rackable curl bar) and would like to know how comfortable it is on the wrists and elbows for those movements when you get it and take it for a spin. If it lives up to its name then I might have to flip the Rogue curl bar in favor of the Rep SS curl bar.

I picked up a REP PB EX not too long ago, it's a very good bar, seems like it has a very similar knurl feel as the KS PB which I like a lot, and I prefer actually the SS feel over my nickel KS PB as well. The REP PB EX may be the very best value PB on the market right now.

Good to hear! Yeah I've owned a lot of power bars, and for the things I value.. smooth sleeves, 29mm diameter, stainless shaft, clean knurl starts/stops, aggressive (but not insanely sharp) knurl... the Rep really seems to hit on all points. Looking forward to adding it to my training soon!

Super early SS Curl Bar impressions/photos:

    Quick thoughts..
    Pros:
-30mm feels perfect for a curl bar
    -Bends feel great
-Knurling is very clean; great starts/stops
    -Rotation seems smooth & quiet
    -Stainless steel!
    -Smooth sleeves!
    -Great packing & quick shipping
-Very fair price for stainless (American Barbell and Ivanko offer stainless offerings for a good bit more)

    Cons (very minor nitpicks):
-Knurl areas seem a little short
-Knurl feels just a little bit too aggressive. It's a nice moderate knurl. Will probably be just fine, but I wouldn't hate if it were toned down just a hair.
-Endcap is a little plain for such a nice bar

    On to the photos!

Probably the best protection/packing I've seen... though the tube did burst at a seam so maybe that could be a bit thicker/stronger:

    Bends:

    Very clean Starts/Stops:

    Moderate Knurl:

One of the best features.. 30mm diameter:

    Another great feature.. smooth sleeves!

    Endcap:

    Overall shot:

I will actually load it up tonight and this weekend and report back with any changes in my thoughts/impressions. Great looking bar!
