OP you forgot the most important one:

    avoid air

I vacuum sealed my entire car and now I've had it for 15 years. And I stay fit because I get to bike to work!

These days every manufacturer has at least 2 cars that are worth buying. So why stick with one car? For as long as 10 years??

Phuck outta here lol. We don't live forever. Use your car for as long as you can, then when you get bored, move onto something new/better/different and enjoy that cycle all over again.
hmm that one way of living and most people would do it if they could afford it, but sometimes I grow a more personal attachment with a car, its hard not to once you've spilled blood under the hood, know most of the inns and outs and quirks of the car and like the way the car handles.

prolly just the way i was raised, bought my dads old car a while ago when he got a new one that's better in every-way on paper, but he later told me he still misses his old car lol

When i was younger, i was attached to ANY car i owned. As you get older, you realize they are just cars. You can still love cars, you can still be a car enthusiast. That doesn't mean there's a rule saying you have to pick ONE car and just live with it for 10, 15, 20+ years. If you want to have an ongoing project like that, that's cool. But if you're limiting to what you can have by justifying it's the ONLY car you can have, then that's the wrong approach.

Cars are meant to have fun in. Like i said above we don't live forever. So go out there and experience the cars you like, if you can afford them.

I worked on cars for the the better half of almost 2 decades. I couldn't leave any car i owned alone. I was always doing something to it. Even had multiple projects going on at the same time.

But that chit gets old quick. When you get older, and your time is valued more, the last thing you wanna do on your days off are wrenching on your cars. When you have time off, you want to get in your car and enjoy it. Even if you take a solo cruise, go to a car meet, go to the track, whatever.

The days of wrenching and doing chit to my cars on the weekends are over. I'll perform maintenance but i'm not about to take my car apart so i can upgrade my injectors or to turbo swap again. Or take apart the entire top half of the engine so i can send it in for porting etc. That chit is over.

That's why i buy fast cars from factory now. That way i don't have to do anything to it. It's already fast. The mods done to my C7Z now are all bolt ons, with a 100hp increase. I didn't even spend 1000 bucks on the mods. And i still have my warranty.

That's the way it should be.

I appreciate all your guys comments and input. But again, these are tips to follow if you want to your car in better shape. Whether you want to keep or sell your car should be a different discussion.

Buuut yes, a car is just a car but I think people should still take care of it better. Being so care free creates waste.

    It's a little ridiculous though.

A new car, with even slightly below average care, will still look good by the time the owner eventually sells it.

The tips you gave, even though some are flawed are for people who have old cars, and take it out once every month or drive 500 miles a year. That's not realistic at all.

You can't just carry small paint brushes so you can brush out any spec of dust you see in your interior. You can't just not drive the car so the paint looks showroom new.

It's just a car. If it gets dirty, you wash it. If you don't wash it properly, of even if you do but still end up with the "love marks", then polish them out with a DA once a year.

I know a lot of people with more expensive cars than mine and they drive it more often than me, and their cars still look like it belongs on a showroom floor.

Just go out and use your cars.

    According to OP, no.

You can't wash it, can't drive in rain, can't drive when it's sunny, can't park it in sun, can't park in shade because it'll have dust.

You can't drive it because someone might hit you. Can't drive it because you'll put too many miles. Can't drive it because you'll put wear and tear on it, killing it's life.

So from now on, just buy new cars and immediately store it in a storage somewhere. And pay some kid to wear a full hazmat suit so he can do a thorough, careful 12 hour detail every week.

Washing puts scratches onto the car. It doesn't matter how careful you are.

Don't park your car outside and don't drive it in bad weather. This will cut down car washing. If you don't have a garage, its going to be harder to keep the car clean. This is basic chit dude.

BTW, some of you guys seem to be forgetting that these are tips for NEW and NICE cars, not fkn beaters.

I notice something on forums in general, people usually misunderstand or don't comprehend what you are saying. I honestly don't know why that is.

Again, these are tips for keeping your car looking new. Whether you don't plan to keep your car for the next 10 years is of a different discussion.

I have no problem with taking my garage queens out, but only when the weather is good.

It sounds great in theory to keep a vehicle for a long time to save money. In the end its probably a bad idea.

My uncle bought a brand new 1985 Dodge truck. Babied it for years and drove beater cars to not put miles on it. He drove the damn thing 32 years before it gave out on him.

TBH he's pretty much a living incarnation of a miscer. Never wanted to hold down a full time job so was 'self employed'. Maybe earned about 1K per month working for himself. Lived alone in a trailer out in the country. Would cook a large pot of beans and eat it 3x per day for a week. Never married. No GFs. Someone tried to hook him up with a woman his age when he was in his 50s and he said she was 'too old'. Etc. Lmao.

    Exactly.

I don't even own a garage so none of my cars can be garage queens. I just put car covers over the cars i don't use everyday. And no i don't have scratches either. And i wash my cars multiple times per month. All is fine until it's time to sell or trade, then you move on with the next one.

Who the hell wants to keep a car for more than 5-6 years?

Consider this scenario: You and I both buy the same, brand new car on the same day. I apply these all of these tips to the car. You don't. 5 years later we both decide to sell it on the same day. Who do you think will get more money out their car? Not only did I get more money for my car, I didn't have to work as hard to maintain my car.

Let me ask you another thing: do you know why cars depreciate so fast and why the demand for new cars are so high? It comes down to people and how they interact with the vehicle. The depreciation is to offset another person's lack of care for the vehicle. A new car's value comes from a person's having not yet violating the car.

If I bought a new car today and sold it 5 years down the road. I can guarantee you that I would get back 95% of my money. Why 95%? because my maintenance techniques are different. Who do you know tells you NOT to wash a car? Nobody. Think different.

So, there is major value in taking care of your car. Its not ridiculous and its doable. If it was ridiculous then I wouldn't have recommended it.

You're directing your comment to the wrong guy. I am all about taking care of my cars. You're just pointing out the obvious and exaggerating it a lot.

Do you even know what goes on during the process of selling your car privately or trading your car in the dealership? I have. Because my dad managed a couple of dealerships when he was still alive. Him and i have been in the business even before i even got my license.

I'm not saying never wash your car, never changing your oil, never doing anything. In fact you're suggesting not to wash the car.

I wash my car almost every week during warm months and every 2-3 weeks during winter, i have NEVER had a problem with a private buyer or a dealer saying, "oh no no no, there are fine scratches from constant washing, i'm low balling you!!"

My vette is 2.5 years old now. I didn't put xpel and i don't follow the tips you said in your original post. And my car still looks brand new. The only thing i can't stop from getting dirty are the wheels. But that's because of my factory brake pads. Those are known to give off a lot of dust. I can't do anything about. Not even changing pads.

Getting your money back from maintenance/detailing is ass backwards. Your resale value solely depends on the type of car you have.

If you have german, you're chit out of luck. You're losing a chit ton of money. Because they have chitty resale. Doesn't matter if you take the best care of it, even exaggerating your original post x10. You're still losing money.

Cars are a waste of money in general. If you want to get around this, you don't buy a car. Or you buy the chittiest car to get you from point A to point B and that's it.

Everything else you said is good, but it's obvious and exaggerated. I actually hope no one takes your advice i hate to say. Because it's flawed.

"So there I am sitting in the waiting area of the hair salon with my niece and Keanu Reeves walks in. I was nervous as ****, but too scared to say anything to him. Then my niece started crying, and I’m trying to quiet her down because I don't want to bother him. Pretty soon he walks over and asks what's wrong. I replied that she was probably hungry. He put down his magazine, picked up my niece, and lifted up his shirt, and breastfed her right there in the salon. Chill guy, really nice about it."

And believe it or not but garage queens break down just as much as cars driven daily.

You have to USE your cars. The more you let it sit, the more problems occur.

I mean you did say if you bought a new car today, in 5 years you'll get 95% of your money back did you not?

Do you even know that 20% of the value is already lost the moment you sign the papers to your new car and drive off the lot that day?

Plenty of ****ty owners put off maintenance, sickening. Anyone who buys my cars is gettin a hell of a deal with essentially zero issues.
Self wrenching is the only way to go. Can't even trust the dealers to do it right. They do the bare minimum, never clean anything (because people complain about having to pay literally a penny and never expect any maintenance)...fk this gay life.

Ok, I was exaggerating a bit when I said 95% but you get the point. A car in better shape is going to get more when you go trade it in. And only bright people understand my "core concepts".

I don't think you understand the reason why depreciation occurs. You think you do but you don't. Depreciation is a general assumption that a car will break down in a predictable and timely manner. Rightfully so, you slap that depreciation percentage on the general public because most don't know how to care for their cars.

I really don't know whats so hard to understand here though; The better taken cared of car will always get a better trade in or resale value. And taking good car of your car is what this thread is all about, homeslice.

    Not really.
You should maintain your car to tip top shape because it means you're just not a piece of **** who doesn't take care of stuff you own. Show some pride in the things you have and people become jealous of what you have. Doesn't just apply to cars. Care for yourself, and all your possessions.

Most people just discard stuff because they don't give a sht. You'll only get resale value from private party. Retards who trade into dealers dont get much extra value.

Maybe I am just lame, I bought my 2013 Scion tC in middle of 2012 paid in cash, all the little features and gadgets I wanted, upgraded the speakers, installed dynomatting all around car to dampen road noise. Its an absolute joy to drive, heated seats, leather etc. I have no family, I have a gf one at a time, I've had like 3 kids in my rear seat in 6 years with zero desire for passengers or guest.

This car just may be a car I keep 10-15-20 years? Its dirt cheap to maintain, looks nice enough, and honestly. I dont even wash the damn thing, its silver and always looks clean. Rain cleans it, I drive thru Alaska winters, or midwest salt belt every year, no chits given.

I would hate to worry over all the stuff OP listed, just seems like a hassle. Just put gas in it, do basic maintenance/oil and drive it til wheels fall off, then put new wheels on it.

It is pretty sickening. I've seen people use the scrubber for tires on their paint at the car wash. The general public don't understand how water, extreme temperature variations, and washing can damage a car. I used to dry my car with fkn shower towels. Those things do some real damage.

I used to go to the dealership for all my oil changes but not anymore. The last time they tightened the oil filter way too tight.

lol you and Qwik are probably right. It's my general assumption that a well taken cared of car will get a better resale value. I should've known better than to give the dealerships the benefit of the doubt. Gamestop really comes in to mind here.

It comes down to the purpose of the car. I rather have a dedicated beater and a dedicated garage queen.

No, you really don't understand how depreciation works. You're trying to brainwash yourself in thinking you do, but clearly you don't.

It's common sense to take care of any personal belongings if you want it to last. Whatever you're trying to explain doesn't make at all a little bit of sense.

    Exactly.

Buy a car, use it, show any form of interest in it, then in a couple of years when you're bored, you sell it.

Depending on the car and how much you actually paid will determine the amount of money you get back. Everything else mentioned really makes no sense.

put your car in a bubble and leave it alone forever/topic
It is better to die on your feet, than to live a lifetime on your knees

a coward dies a thousand deaths, a soldier dies but one.

    The odds are great
    But my spirit is strong,
    My faith unbreakable,
    My blood is pure.
    I SHALL ENDURE!
    I WILL ENDURE!
