Unable to do most triceps exercises, due to sharp elbow pain

Any kind of overhead extension, whether it is with a bar, dumbbell, cables or machine really bothers and irritates my left elbow. Even a very light load for a few reps (10 pounds) becomes unbearable to do because of elbow pain. Lying extensions (skullcrushers) with free weights or cables or machines or any kind of cable pressdowns all cause me the same issues. Close grip bench and dips are more tolerable to perform, but I still experienced some discomfort in my elbow doing them. Dumbbell kickbacks are literally the only triceps exercise that does not cause me pain. I was stupid today and tried to work through the pain doing overhead extensions with a dumbbell and the pain in my elbow got worse. I also felt some aching throughout my triceps to where it inserts into the upper back and also felt some pain in the upper part of my forearm.

It looks like my elbow is a bit swollen from the side, sore to the touch and I am unable to straighten out my arm or reach overhead without pain. Straightening out my arm or reaching overhead against any kind of resistance (unless it is a kickback) is a no-no. What is wrong my elbow and how should this injury be treated?

Have you tried lying triceps extensions (not skullcrushers) with a football or swiss bar?

You're welcome. Unlike using a fixed bar, this allows your arm to follow it's natural path if you set up right. Elbows simply work as a hinge as designed

Try working on the tricep with some rolling and stretching for a few weeks. Probably have some fascial adhesions built up from training. Here's a video. Hope it helps!
