It's been known for years that cholesterol isn't responsible for heart disease, governments just keep pushing a narrative in order to pander to big agriculture lobbying.

What is more interesting recently is the discovery that high cholesterol leads to better health and longer life. https://medium.com/the-mission/highe...e-b4090f28d96e

I believe cholesterol is great and necessary for healthy hormone levels.

the PROBLEM is we use people that sit on their azs all day while cramming steak, eggs, ham, donuts, etc into their face as examples and references of what not to eat

If you exercise and drink a sht ton of water, get sleep, and have otherwise normal health......imo, you can eat whatever you want (within reason)

So many people -- particularly baby boomers -- also spent 20-30+ years having the lipid hypothesis, lean meats, and polyunsaturated fats shoved down their throats. It's like they've invested too much, their sunk costs are too high so they just continue plowing ahead with it despite meta-analyses and new research indicating otherwise

I think water is the key to everything. It's amazing how much it regulates your body. It blows my mind that some people never drink it. They all age way worse.

Processed food, flours, carbs, sugars is the real cause of inflammation and disease in the body. The body releases cholesterol into the blood to combat inflammation and repair blood vessels/arteries, cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease, but an accurate indicator of inflammation that is occurring. It is still, however, a good indicator that your diet is F'ed up and needs modification. The important figure being the ratio of good vs. bad, size, etc... not just LDL itself.

Water is the key to youth, healthy skin, good body regulation yet so many people barely even drink 1 liter a day.

Exactly. We are mostly water, so it makes sense that water would behave in our bodies the way it does in nature.

It doesn't. It's caused by arterial damage secondary to inflammation. The inflammation is typically from diet. High intake of refined carbs leads to high glucose levels and high glucose increases osmotic pressure which cause damage. Also high intake of PUFA's can cause it to because they aren't as stable as other fats and oxidize easier leading to inflammatory chemicals. Cholesterol is basically part of the band aid that covers the damage. So these morons looked at the band aid and thought that was the cause

Posted in the european society of cardiology

    https://academic.oup.com/eurheartj/a...2/2459/3745109

Low-density lipoproteins cause atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

    1. Evidence from genetic, epidemiologic, and clinical studies. A consensus statement from the European Atherosclerosis Society Consensus Panel analyses of over 200 prospective cohort studies, Mendelian randomization studies, and randomized trials including more than 2 million participants with over 20 million person-years of follow-up and over 150 000 cardiovascular events demonstrate a remarkably consistent dose-dependent log-linear association between the absolute magnitude of exposure of the vasculature to LDL-C and the risk of ASCVD;

    META ANALYSIS OF 200 STUDIES
    2 MILLION PARTICIPANTS
20 MILLION YEARS OF HUMAN LIFE
    150,000 CARDIAC EVENTS

The evidence OVERWHELMINGLY proves the lipid hypothesis: CHOLESTEROL CAUSES HEART DISEASE.

Cumulative LDL arterial burden is a central determinant for the initiation and progression of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

The lower the LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) level attained by agents that primarily target LDL receptors, the greater the clinical benefit accrued.

Both proportional (relative) risk reduction and absolute risk reduction relate to the magnitude of LDL-C reduction.

Lowering LDL-C in individuals at high cardiovascular risk earlier rather than later appears advisable, especially in those with familial hypercholesterolaemia.

Low-density lipoproteins cause atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

    1. Evidence from genetic, epidemiologic, and clinical studies. A consensus statement from the European Atherosclerosis Society Consensus Panel analyses of over 200 prospective cohort studies, Mendelian randomization studies, and randomized trials including more than 2 million participants with over 20 million person-years of follow-up and over 150 000 cardiovascular events demonstrate a remarkably consistent dose-dependent log-linear association between the absolute magnitude of exposure of the vasculature to LDL-C and the risk of ASCVD;

I agree. High cholesterol does not cause heart attacks. I personally do not test and do not care what my cholesterol levels are.

I'm a believer that endothelium disfunction and blood clots are mainly responsible for cardiac events. From what I've read a few ways to prevent endothelium disfunction are to raise nitric oxide levels by eating green vegetables and beets, sun bathe, and exercise.

A sight I enjoy learning about heart disease is Scottish doctor Malcom Kendrick. His sight can be seen here ~

The study referenced in the forum OP posted cites patient data from 1.3million people and directly contradicts the connection between LDL-C and heart disease and particularly the benefits of statins, which is another major focus of the study you posted

Honestly you can find research and studies supporting and refuting everything under the sun. Only the researchers and experts in these fields can really comment on the credibility of the studies. It's no surprise that health/nutrition science is such a chitshow of flip-flopping and contradictory headlines

In 2015, WWE wrestling collected $100,000 for "Connor" who had cancer but the boy died after 1 year after receiving $100,000 medical treatment.

$10,000 is lots of money for a poor man or farmer or student who is looking forward to 40 to 50 years.

No **** having high LDL is associated with CVD
that does not mean LDL causes CVD
Furthermore, dietary cholesterol has virtually no effect on LDL levels
ergo, eating eggs and steak is not what causes CVD.

This conversation, for the 100th time, huh? No one is arguing that rising cholesterol levels is bad.

Actually there is a large difference between the two studies

The one in the OP tried to determine if cholesterol was a CAUSE of CVD, by using statins and other cholesterol reducing drugs as a primary method of preventing CVD.

The study you quoted made only an association between elevated LDL and CVD.

Like another miscer said, cholesterol is instrumental in building and repairing cell membranes so if they are elevated in your blood stream it is an indicator that there is damage to artery walls or the heart. So.... duh if you have CVD you will have elevated LDL, it is your body's natural response. Doesn't mean the LDL was the cause. Don't have to be a cardiologist to understand this.
