When i go to my inbox and click on sent items it says contains zero messages. But sometimes i DM someone and then i would like to make sure if my message got sent.

Says right at the bottom of each messaging you're composing:
"Save a copy of this message in your Sent Items folder."
If that box is not checked, well, you're not going to have any saved messages. If it's checked and you're still not seeing saved messages in your sent folder, I don't know what to tell you.
