Who is getting it? Just plat Assassin's Creed: Origins, and have Odyssey pre-ordered(Ubisoft games in my country always give cool shirts as pre-order bonuses lol).
Rumors says you play as a Templar.
You can also choose which side to support in the war- Athens vs. Sparta.

Im curious to try it. I love the idea of these games. The depth and how they tie history and stuff into the story.
I own Unity and Syndicate. Havent played much of them yet. I just dont have the attention span anymore. I REALLY want to, as they are extremely fun, I just get bored really quickly(thats most games in general). I actually bought Origins too, when it was on sale on the PSN. Have only played that and Unity a little bit. Havent really touched Syndicate at all. I wish these games came out when I was in high school and undergrad. I would stay up countless nights to play these games(the first assasins creeds were out when I was in undergrad, but I never really gave them a second look. Then I tried Assassins Creed 3 when it was released from Redbox and I got really hooked with it(a lot of free time). Got Black Flag for Xmas the year it came out, but didn't play it too much cause I got frustrated with the pirate ship driving.
Long story short, if I still didnt have Unity, Origins and Syndicate to beat, I would totally pick up this game. These games are consistently good and I would recommend them to just about anyone.

Alexios because I'm not a chick.
Templar, because Illuminati death cult.
Sparta, because although I don't know exactly where the Greek part of me hails from (last known place is Athens), I'm a really pissed off person.
Also, I'm calling BS on any character being "canon" in a game in which you can choose sides. That just means that they paid some sap to write a book that all of four people will give a chit about like every other video game spinoff book, while everyone else in the world just plays the game how they want.
While I probably won't be buying this until a deep sale because I am still in Dark Souls mode for the near foreseeable future, AC: Odyssey looks like the first AC game to at least start to finally move the series into a more open, action RPG game that they were clearly waffling on committing towards in the prior titles after bumping off Desmond and that whole side of the story.
After their Hunt For Medusa preview (below), I honestly do think they should have just made Origins and now Odyssey a standalone series that was completely free of the Animus and the daft pseudo-science subplot tagged along every game in the series regardless of how silly it was (an evil Abstergo video game company having you play test a pirate game? What the actual hell?). That way, they could have more freely explored both the real history and the mythological sides of these lands that, again, they clearly want to explore (e.g. the giant snake and Anubis in Origins).
That said, I prefer the action RPG direction and the emphasis on choice after how irritating the old AC games were about forcing you to do things by the books [i]because that's how it happened and the Animus and blah blah blah[/]. Great, except no one likes being forced to awkwardly stand 20 feet behind some slow-walking twats when we could just go all slashy-dashy. I also like how they've said that from now on they want to let players choose which gender they want to play as, and I hope that they eventually let us completely customize our characters a bit like how the Animus Control Panel allowed far more customization. And so long as they do continue with the Animus stuff, there is a perfectly logical explanation for full customization. That's just my personal preference, though; being able to decide to play as a literal hellspawn always gives me extra enjoyment out of games.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine

Ghost arrows?
Teleport assassinations?
Ubisoft isn't even pretending, they just straight ripped features from the Talion/Celebrimbor skill trees. Mythology is all well and good, but let's not pretend this is anything other than an attempt to clumsily incorporate "new" features into what's supposed to be an assassin formula. This is fantasy. It was simple to know what was coming after the steerable arrows in Origins.

9.2
The Verdict
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a resounding achievement in world building, environment, and engaging gameplay with occasional problems throughout. Its incredible recreation of ancient Greece is something I’ll want to go back to long after I’ve finished its main story, and its excellent systems mesh together in a way that’s hard to beat. While there are definite rough edges, Odyssey sets a new bar for Assassin’s Creed games and holds its own in the eternal debate over the best open-world roleplaying games ever.

I pre-ordered and grabbing it today. I have always been a fan of AC, but this one has me a little hesitant since there is no mention of the Assassins really. You have first civ artifacts and I'm chalking it up to this is long before the Creed was established (in the timeline). Either way it looks badazz.

Looks good other than possibly the performance. I'll wait to see if more sources come out to compare, but I happen to be using a 980ti and I don't want to deal with below 60fps on 1080p when not even on Ultra (I use a 1440p monitor). As of now, that deep sale price point is looking more likely for me because I'm not upgrading for an Assassin's Creed game.
Crazy times when AC is ripping of Shadow of Mordor.
But I'm totally with you on the fantasy, which is why I wish they'd just drop the Assassin's Creed moniker and call it a new IP already. The original Assassin's Creed looked so bloody incredible when it was first teased because we never see historical locales in big budget video games, but then they completely undermined that by having to throw in an extra layer with the sodding Animus/Matrix bollocks. Assassin Creed games are already unique without them trying to shoehorn in their own godawful spin with the pseudo-science-fiction and Ancient Aliens civilization.
I think that a pervading issue is that Ubisoft themselves have never been truly committed to an Assassin's game, always adding unnecessary layers that comes across as too many cooks in the kitchen trying to leave their own mark, so you had forced mission types, Arkham-wannabe combat to take out hordes of opponents, open world collectathons, and eventually an entire bloody pirate ship and crew, making the games slowly turn into anything but a purely Assassin-oriented series. Black Flag is where they first should have abandoned the namesake to start a new IP or standalone title, but instead they have merely thrown concept after concept on top of the already overstuffed series.
So with Odyssey and Origins, it really seems like they have finally somewhat conceded that they have diverged from the original premise in everything but name, which is really the last string they need to cut at this point. Leaving these style of games as more freeform concepts where you can choose stealth is terrific, but they are only lying to themselves and simultaneously limiting the inherent potential of these games by dragging them along the AC train. A full-fledged Assassin game could be done far better than one that tries to be everything at once, and this lack of focus is why the stealth ends up like Shadow of Mordor where it's a backup option for when you just so happen to not be in a position to go full 300 on everyone.
Nevertheless, I really hate the idea of having flame swords and magic eagles in these games, regardless of whether or not they're an Assassin's Creed game or an otherwise 99% fantasy-free action RPG; either make a fantasy game or leave that stuff out.

^ lol yeah, going by the times, that chit wouldnt have been tolerated, but I'm down with it because it created a more interesting character and storyline. It was tastefully done tbh and not shoved down your throat Bioware style. Ubi is generally good at handling diversity / sjw / chit like that srs.
Hey so something pretty interesting and cool happened that I didnt expect.
I was doing this mission and this guy asked me to save his brother and if I do, he'll join my ship and I'm like hell yea, this guy has some pretty great stats I could use forthe ship ... Ok, so I go clear up the camp and save his brother, but he dies from his injuries (scripted). I go back to the guy and asks me about his brother - It gives me a choice of whether I want to tell him that his brother died or make up a lie and tell him that his brother survived.
I decide to spare the guy from the truth and tell him that his brother joined up with the pirates as they forced him to and that hes alive. This guy doesnt believe it, says his brother has morals and basically calls me a kunt and that I shouldnt have lied to him and refuses to join my crew because he doesnt wanna join up with a liar.
So yeah, I failed the quest and I dont think I can hire him lol, which definitely sucks .... I havnt gone back and checked to see if I can re-do it or not... But the fact that this happened in a Ubisoft and Assassins game is pretty fukkin cool tbh.
Even had another quest fail on me, was surprised to protect this guy from an ambush, but he ended up dying and I failed the quest. I'm not sure whether it was me swinging around my spear that killed him.
These failed states are really cool and interesting, I hope they continue and have consequences. I dont think the system will be that deep, but I'm all for Ubisoft going the RPG and bioware route for this franchise.Sig line can't be a novel

First i wanna say i found all AC games pretty boring after the first hour except for Black Flag. With that said, I REALLY like this game. It feels very different story wise and just the world feels more Witcher to me than AC. Really enjoying the game play too. I don't even have my ship yet but iv been really immersed with it so far.

I got a few hours in last night. Just got on the boat to head out to kill the Wolf as that is the end of the intro and the first contract. I'm playing as Alexios. So far the game is pretty fun. The new way that combat and skills are laid out is pretty cool. Running around using the Sparta kick is kind of comical when you hear a giant "thud" and then the enemy flies across the screen.

980 Ti/2500k i5
1440p display
I have everything maxed out except for DoF, shadows, water, clouds, and AA... I'm getting 45-50 fps, but it dips down to 40 in populated areas of the map. I'm going to do more tweaking to try to hit the 50s, but I'm hoping for a price drop on the 1080 Ti so I can finally upgrade.
