My wife and I are doing some beachy trips to Bali and the Philippines here in the next few months. I am currently 6'1 and around 216 at the moment. I will be staying sort of lean around 8-10% BF during that time (through Xmas as our Philippines trip isn't until then), but not show ready lean as I just don't want my gut sticking out . When we get back from our Xmas trip in January, I want to start a clean bulk for a few months. There's a show in Tulsa in June that I want to do when we move back to the US and my thought it that I would do a clean bulk from Jan-March and then cut from March-June for the show. My question is....is a three month bulk really worth it? If I had to guess, my show weight now would be anywhere from 207-210 (if I was guessing since I really don't know my BF at the moment.) I'm just guessing based on how I was for previous shows and my progress then. That's up from the 189-190 I was when I last competed in 2014 (been living overseas since then, so no real chance to get back and do a show since.) So am I asking too much of my body to do a clean bulk for 3 months and then turn around and cut? I'm guessing I'd maybe put on 1-1.5 lbs if I'm lucky during that time. I'd like to be sitting around 210 for a show weight in June, so it that doable? Any help would be appreciated. Gracias! Danke! Obrigado! Thanks!

Yes it would be a good idea. The main reason being is you'll want to try and get your metabolism to increase over those 3 months to put you in a better spot for cutting once you decide to do so. 3 months is a good amount of time to increase calories and set you up to be in a good spot to begin a cut. not to mention just being able to find a healthy balance with meal prep and eating aside from competition.

I think so; this is my routine twice a year. I do 2 shows per year (maybe more in 2019), so I have a 7 month break and then a 5 month break. I do lean bulks for a couple months then a short cut for show day.
Mainly, I don't want to try to keep my body in that condition for so long between shows so I give it a good feed.2017 OCB Men's Physique Open 4th place
