Hey guys what's going on, I just had a quick question regarding mass gainers.
I recently graduated from college and started working out. I am not new to lifting, but haven't lifted seriously in a long time, so I pretty much started from scratch about a month ago. I wanted to gain some mass (It doesn't seem like I eat enough) and be stronger so I bought a mass gainer called Dymatize (5lbs). I'm broke so this was the only one I could afford.
1). What do you thing of this brand of a mass gainer? The reviews seemed good enough and I have read that these mass gainers are all pretty similar.
2). Do all of them come like the Lays chips bags? It's like 50% empty in there and I don't know if I could have gotten better for my money.
My b if this question has been asked before and thank you.
PS: I'm new to this forum so ignore the 48 years for my age for now

Dymatize is a great brand. However,
For future, dial in your food intake before hitting the powders. A jar of PB and chicken breasts are so much more cost effective in the long run. If you’re dead set on supplementing with powder, just get a normal Whey protein(Dymatize has tons of great flavors), and simply add PB, banana, oats, whole milk to get the additional calories. You’ll have more control over what you take this way versus a Mass Gainer. And you may actually save a few bucks that way also.
As for the bag- the powder settles so there’s gonna be lots of space....same goes for tubs.Dad

1. Mass gainers are bull****, you might as well eat garbage. Look at the list of ingredients. Eat REAL, HEALTHY food if you want to gain mass. And if you want something for the sake of gaining healthy weight just for the sake of it having large calories, google how to make your own mass gainer, something like a banana peanut butter and protein powder is in it I believe.
2. Refer to my first point, skip any premade mass gainer.

While I don't disagree that most gainers are a waste of money, "healthy" is a subjective term and really doesn't really mean much in the context of body comp goals. "Real" is also subjective. Is sugar real? It's a carbohydrate and worth 4 calories for per gram. If powdered protein "real"? It's still equates to 4 calories per gram and has a make up of amino acids. How is that any less "real" than chicken?
While micros might be better, macros and total caloric intake are what matters for body comp goals."I'm pretty sure your wrong, but care to elaborate..."

Dymatize is a very reputable company. Most companies packaging can hold more than is actually in it too. Looks better on the shelves

Alright. Thank you all for the insightful inputs! It seems like I shouldn't fully depend on mass gainers but I might just use it every now and then if I don't have enough to eat that day or as just a quick calorie boost for the day as needed. As long as I eat well and workout consistently, I should see good progress correct?

Beware of hype and marketing. Nothing beats a well balanced diet, the fitness industry leads you to believe that you need an excess of protein intake so that they can take your money selling you these big bags and tubs of protein. Nutrition is very simple, don't put anything into your body that your great grandmother wouldn't have eaten. These big bags of protein powder are there so the manufacturers can dip into your pocket. Train hard, eat well and ignore the BS marketing. Good luck.
