What a fun match.
I actually would love it if Stan made his own crazy comeback and won Wimbledon. Completing the career slam with only 4 total would be really cool.Last edited by ohiostate124; 02-17-2019 at 08:30 AM.

Second set showed where his level is. He's defending peanuts for the rest of the season so I can see him returning to the Top 10. He's up to 40 now. Just needs a few draws without any early round surprises to get some confidence back.
Let's face it even during his 2014-2016 peak his ATP form was patchy saving his best each year for a couple of slams and Masters. Such an exciting player to watch when he's in the zone.

Fanboys gonna fanboy. Sorry Jayarbie I'm taking the bait again.
Since you don't watch matches sans Bull's bulging biceps you've conveniently left out the 4.5hr SF match he had with Murray that f'd both of them up while Thiem rolled over for Nadal. Wawrinka played 2 more matches after that, both 1st round losses, before pulling the plug and having knee surgery. Murray followed suit. But let's not mention that.
Funny how you made excuses for Nadal not being fresh against Federer (AO 2017) and Djokovic (Wimbledon 2018) — and who could forget the 2014 AO final where he was back winning titles 3 weeks later — but let's not cut Stan any slack for going out there with a busted knee after a 4.5hr match. Only the Bull's injuries and fatigue are valid excuses. ¡Vamos Rafa!

not giving stan any flack, i hope he gets better but he ain't beating Rafa at the French. The only chance he has is if Djokovic does his dirty work for him, but seeing that Djokovic and Rafa are 1 and 2, that doesn't look like it will happen.
Also please point out where i blamed Nadal being tired in 2017 AO and 2018 Wimbledon. I did mention that the Anderson vs Isner match went too long, which possibly cost Nadal the match.
Lets also not ignore the only reason why Federer has a French, was b/c Nadal was injured and lost to Solderling.

You and your buddy were salty AF blaming the roof, Isner-Anderson, you name it. He was the better player for most of the match but then he was in form and confident — Novak hadn't won anything in nearly 2 years. Clutchvak got it done down BP. No excuses.
Djokovic beat him fair and square. Would have thrashed him in the US Open final if he dragged his tired ass into that one but he knew he was going to get a flogging so he waved the white flag and let Delpo proceed. Then we saw a healthy, fully fresh Nadal get pounded in the AO final.
Always excuses with this guy. And if his fans aren't making them for him he's serving them up. Says he's the most injured player despite never having surgery for anything more than an ankle cleanout. An insult to the likes of Delpo, Murray, and Wawrinka with real injuries that required surgery. Says there should be more clay events. Says the ATP Finals should be on clay. It never ends.
Take away clay and this guy ain't an all time great — his career would look marginally better than Murray's.

The cognitive impairment is strong in the Nadal Nuthugging Nexus.
Clay = 9 week season in a 47 week calendar. Barely 20% of the Tour. Yet that's where 70% of his results are from.
And the precious H2H you've talked up to show he's the "GOAT" over Federer — you have nothing else to go on — is propped up by 15 clay matches to only 20 on HC. So 30+ weeks of the season are HC and they played only 5 more matches on it compared to clay.
You failed to answer any of my questions. Just threw up another "clay isn't real tennis" smokescreen. And today the target is Wawrinka. Got to get in a cheap shot since you're still salty about him beating Nadal in a slam final. Hang in there if he can make another AO final he can rack up 5 losses there like Murray.

Maybe but they have a unique relationship kind of like two brothers. I trained with my younger brother for over 10 years. Do you think there was a single workout where him lifting more would have gone down well? I never let it happen.
Stan would be tired of living in his shadow and Federer would have been uncomfortable with him winning slams and beating Djokovic and Nadal when he couldn't and being the highest ranked Swiss. It looks more like an act these days but maybe when they are both retired they could be close again.
But then there could be more to it outside of tennis. Stan left his wife for an 18yo Donna Vekic. Just a hunch but that's not something that would go down well with an older married woman like Mrs Fed would it?

Ah yes his "strongest rival" on clay these days hasn't taken a set off him at Roland Garros.
2014 6–2 6–2 6–3
2017 6–3 6–4 6–0
2018 6–4 6–3 6–2
Another vote for clay being the most competitive. Meanwhile on grass you can be outside the Top 100 playing challengers one week and taking out the Bull in R1 the next.
But while you're here please explain to me how you're ranking "GOAT" Nadal ahead of the merely "most accomplished" Federer.
I've been waiting days to hear your piss weak excuse. Come on champ... enlighten me.

Notice how he refuses to explain why he believes Nadal is "GOAT".
And despite the fact Novak has owned Nadal for 8 years and beat him in 2 of the last 3 slams it doesn't matter what he does from here on out because it's a weak field. LTFOL. He wasn't complaining about an even weaker weak sauce field when Nadal won the 2017 US Open without facing a single Top 25 player while Djokovic was offline. He wasn't complaining about that. He only likes cupcake draws when the Bull is padding his slam tally.
Still no comment. He only checks in to post his MS Paint cultist image and to show that he was triggered by me saying his toughest clay rival Thiem with 0 slams and 0 Masters "rolled over."

Did we talk about Osaka dropping her coach 2 weeks after winning the AO? The guy who pretty much took her from obscurity to the top? Apparently he was asking for more money and she didn’t want to pay him.... if that’s true it’s a hell of a gamble in her part. I would have kept him around for at least another year or two until I won a few more slams.
Also... Halep has split with her new coach already... wonder if she’s going to snap this dude up?

Sounds like she’s making the classic millennial mistake in thinking that every day on the tour should be full of fun and smiles. She should ask guys like Nick and Monfils how that’s gone for them over their careers. If you want to be the best you have to WORK... and take some criticism without melting down or internalizing it.

You'll usually see a coaching merry-go-round when parents are heavily involved in a player's career and I'll bet it's the case here.
Darren Cahill had problems with Hewitt's parents who followed him everywhere, even to practice, and he quit after Hewitt won the US Open and reached No. 1. Along came former player Jason Stoltenberg who guided him to victory at Wimbledon and kept him at No. 1. He lasted barely 18 months. The parents then chose Roger Rasheed. He lasted about 4 years and aside from end of 2004-2005 he struggled to stay in the Top 10. Story: How parent power left Hewitt's coach out in cold
She turns 22 this year. Surely that's old enough for a tennis player to make decisions on their own.
