Novak's highest level was 2011. Nadal had no answer to him losing 6 straight finals while Federer beat him at the French and had him on the ropes serving with 2 match points at the US Open.

Make no mistake 2011-mid 2012 was Nadal's absolute peak. Take away the 0-7 to Djokovic and he wins 5 straight slams: RG '11, Wimbledon, US Open, AO, and RG '12.

He even said in his book: "In 2011 my problem was Djokovic because I was winning against everybody and losing against him."

So you could make the argument with all 3 playing at their highest combined level Federer was a tougher matchup for peak Djokovic than Nadal.

2015 was another dominant Djokovic season where Nadal got toweled up. "Djokovic had an impressive 15-4 record against the other 3 members of men's tennis's Big Four, including a 4-0 record versus Rafael Nadal, 5-3 against Roger Federer and 6-1 record against Andy Murray." Again Federer (in his mid 30s) was his toughest opponent of the 3.

Is it even really an argument? I thought it was generally accepted that Fed was a tougher matchup for Novak.

Djokovic is the GOAT. It's not really close anymore tbh. Would be even less so if they didn't do everything to stop him from playing slams.

And I'm glad he's the GOAT. The only player that had the balls to stand up to tyranny. The other 2? Kept their tails tucked between their legs. Nadal was even worse than Federer.
There is but one path....we kill them all.

Appreciate Dominiks belief in Nadal that he could win the Aussie this year if Novak didn't play. He had zero chance if you look at his form leading up to the tournament. Dude looked closer to retirement than Federer did when they played doubles at the Laver.

Also only reason Djokovic owns Federer is cuz Federer is the biggest choker in all of sports. Imagine losing to a guy not once, not twice, but three times at grandslams when you have match points. Can't make this **** up.

GS 9-8 for Federer if he converted those match points.

Not to mentioned that 4/23 BP conversion at the US Open 2015.

Never forget how quickly Nadal sank the boot into Djokovic before he was deported and rubbed it in with his face mask social media profile. It's backfired and just added fuel to the fire. Nadal now can't rely on governments keeping Novak out. The path is clear.

It's a real surface but barely 3 months of the year so why have they played more on clay than hard in the last 12 years?

Check the ATP calendar if you need to be reminded of where clay ranks in the pecking order.

In a few months It will be 10 years since Nadal last beat Novak on HC. Think about that.

Hopefully Alcaraz can save us from Djokovic vulturing another slam.

Alcaraz is the best player in the world right now, especially on clay. He should win at RG, but we'll see. Djokovic is going to get at least another slam or two before he retires, though.

Not this time but I thought after that weird situation at Indian Wells last year against Fritz he might have been having heart issues where he was complaining of chest pain or whatever it was, but then he came back and won the French despite a very poor clay season. Then he pulled out of Wimbledon before the Kyrgios SF and never looked the same player, losing 8 of the next 13 matches.

He has nothing left to prove. You and iabs have put more stock in the slam tally than me. I accepted 5 years ago Novak was going to reel them both in. He's too consistent across all surfaces and is the superior player against the other two since 2011 plus has all the big records like weeks and year end No. 1 with no holes in his resume. He's top dog. Splitting Nadal and Federer for me comes down to slow vs. fast surfaces. Peak Federer around 2004-2006 played the best attacking tennis while no one covered the court better than Nadal in the mid 2000s.

One thing we would agree on is we got to watch the most exciting era of tennis with some truly special rivalries.

It's interesting looking at players as they near the end. Injuries aside they can still play at a high level by finding ways to cover for where they've declined but they ultimately have more bad days.

Nadal had his best start to a season in 2022 going on a 20 match streak until the wheels fell off against Fritz. Federer put together some impressive demolition jobs vs. Nadal in 2017 in 3 Masters and he had Novak on the ropes in that 2019 Wimbledon final.

That final match against Hurkacz ending with a bagel was the worst he'd ever played so it was no surprise he called time on his career. I expected nothing after this.

Nothing to be sad about. The guy played for 23 years. The same goes for Nadal. He turns 37 next month. 22 slams. Won 8 more French Opens than Borg and 12 more than his biggest rival. You've got to be satisfied with that as a fan. No one is breaking this record in our lifetime.

Although I only started watching tennis in 2011 and never got to witness peak Federer-Nadal rivalries live. I am blessed to still have been able to watch the big 3 live over these years. It’s been a real treat, especially fed’s comeback in 2017 which absolutely no one sober saw coming.

It is insane that the big 3 were dominating the tour despite being mid-thirties. Especially considering that before the big 3 era, the vast majority of players were retiring at around 30, with the exception of Agassi.

Will we get another big 3 with the same level/quality of tennis? Doubtful. I have high hopes for alcaraz, I think he has the slight edge over Novak in RG.

Med knocked out of first round. Wow. And the kunt was a qualifier I think who beat him.

Shame that monfils had to retire for his second round but also expected given his wrist injury. That first round was unreal.

Gonna miss him when he retires, as well as Wawrinka.

I always put sunscreen on before playing, but it does very little. Even the sport stuff sweats off pretty quickly, and I can't reapply during the match or else it'll just get in my eyes.

I see a few people comparing Alcaraz's FH to Federer. Many differences. Roger also held his gaze on the racket face after contact. In my opinion the best FH across all surfaces and looked its best in 2004. I'm still waiting for a clone.

Nah, GOAT is Fed easily. Only reason Novak rose to the top of many stats is because we've been in the Career Inflation Era for about 6 years now

The women's SFs today were good. Too bad it's set up what will probably be a one-sided final. Swiatek got pushed today, though, but another unseeded player being competitive is unlikely. Sabalenka was the real threat.

Underdog Djokovic is killing Alcaraz. These youngsters can't hang yet. Too mentally weak.

I think Djokovic was given +3.5 or +4.5 games as well.

glad Alcaraz is getting humbled. seems sort of arrogant.
