There is barely anyone talking about it this year, is it because the IFBB split from the international ? Or it got super boring and people suddenly don't care about vanity anymore ?
I gotta say the fit expos side is repetitive and boring. Plus not the same atmosphere without Rich Piana, definitely less entertainment.

Mr olympia is dying because of social media. It used to be an aura seeing bodybuilders in magazines and on stage and if your lucky enough at your local gym. This solidified them as bodybuilding celebs. Now its lost cause anyone can be in the fitness limelight if you have a shet ton of followers. That plus all the bro science that has been debunked

I think that the scene is changing, not necessarily dying. The trash talk (among bodybuilders) that you have seen came from the increasing popularity of bikini etc. categories that you yourself advertise in your sig, OP. And the 'problem' there is some of the women competing in bikini barely look like they lift at all, srs. So this is diluting the meaning of 'bodybuilding' to some, because random people on Instagram now all of a sudden think they should be able to compete in bodybuilding events, especially if they have a significant social following.
The scene is in a bit of change because of this dynamic - but I certainly wouldn't say it's dying. But of course, I'm in on the weekly thread about 'bodybuilding is DEAD and supplement industry is DEAD and the glory days were the BEST but now they are GONE' drivel, I guess.

used to be alot more HYPE before olympia with training videos, magazines n sh!t like that.. nowadays ur lucky to get a pic 10 weeks out.
i also think that ppl realize how rigged it can be or at least in their own mind believe that its rigged.
that being said, im not sure that its dying.... like others said, probably just going in a different direction or just being stingy with promoting.^_-

I think it used to be more popular because it was so rare to see people that looked like that at mr Olympias inception. Now there's countless guys cycling crazy stuff year round, and I feel like it's lost a little of its allure. It used to be holy **** look at that. Now its more, good god that's disgusting and theres hundreds if not thousands of people that look like that(not mr. Olympia quality, but bigger and juicier than Arnold).
IMO it got oversaturated and corrupted once bicycling became better understood and more things to incorporate into their stack, leading to a de-sensitization to the look and BBers focus on being big as big as possible over everything, GH gut was running rampant for awhile

you're right, 1 no one knew better, 2 the novelty hadn't worn off. Not only do we wonder about the bike rides, but I'm so desensitized to huge people (if you go to a major college gym/any big time gym you see a good bit of freaks) that it's no impressive anymore, from an avg. standpoint. Most people see someone like that and immediately judge them. When, like you said, back in Arnolds day he was revered people thought he was healthy and he was an icon. Bodybuilders, due to the negative stigma IMO, won't be popular again like the used to be. The sport is kind of played out in its current form IMO as we've already seen people basically get as big as humanly possible.

The gays have Grindr now, they don't need bodybuilding shows any more.

This.
There's zero mainstream/casual appeal to contests between mass monsters who lube themselves up and pose in thongs on stage. I've been to exactly one bodybuilding show a friend of mine (who lifted seriously at the time) dragged me to and I was absolutely disgusted with basically all of the contestants. No one outside of the niche fans care about that chit because it's about looking like a freak instead of looking good these days.

more like who sucks the best dick and most often (semi-serious)
Everyone knows bodybuilding/fitness is funded purely by raging homosexual sponsors
Exactly the same goes for all those instagram models. The girls are pumping some insane lifestyle and making out like its entirely funded by their 'travel blog' or paid for posts on instagram and completely denying/hiding the fact that they are being paid £10K to go out for dinner with forever aloners.
