You're just flat out wrong and my example of a player getting cross checked into the boards proves this. That is quite a common cross checking major. This particular play is just a freak incident, but it's still the exact same sequence as a cross check that sends a player into the boards and causes a serious injury.

The cross check didn’t cause the injury. The hit while he was airborne led him to smack his head on the ice because he didn’t have his balance. That hit was good.

A legal hit caused the injury.

If you hit an opponent shoulder to shoulder and the legal hit causes an injury, it’s not a penalty.

That call is a minor xcheck penalty or a double minor if you want to be strict.

The referees panicked because of the end result. It was a bad call.

That being said, I’m on record saying that Vegas should have not folded like that. They win if they allow 1 or even 2 goals.

And they had OT to score as well.

The cross check put him in that position. If a player crosschecks another from behind, and that player trips over another player sprawled on the ice and goes head first into the boards and gets seriously injured, it's a major. It doesn't matter that it wouldn't have happened if X factor didn't exist. A two minute minor resulted in a player being seriously injured.

That's like saying a board/hit from behind isn't the cause for an injury because the player hit the boards. That's simply not what the rule states.
