i know a guy who went from a legit hs chad vagene slayer to fat baldcel while in med school.
one of the strongest transformations ever.

but he's an extremely driven dude who wants to save the world , and so ladies flock to him, even though he's happily married to an ever expanding 6.

but he gazes at her with loving eyes, and chicks drip even more.

so yes boyos, its a blanket statement, but status is everything.

achievement status also trumps looks status.

High level difficult access professions are high status.
That said it comes down to attitude too. If you are in a business field, make solid money, like what you do...Then you can be high status too.

It depends on the specialization tbh

Surgeons are alpha and always enjoy listening to what they were up to while being on a 12-hour shift the previous night.

The female attraction is overrated though - at least in their words. Nurses are sloots, most of them are not hot and they usually end up shagging with doctors because I mean it is easy opportunities - they are locked in the hospital with each other for several 12-hour shifts.

Any post graduate degree related to science requires a high IQ. I'd much rather be an engineer with a PhD getting paid the same amount, actually working on societal contributions greater than diagnosing some fat **** with diabetes.

Look up the effects of ionizing radiation, the human body's DNA repair mechanisms (and its error rates), and the amount of radiation we're exposed to daily (much of it being background radiation).

This is stuff we learned in 1st year of med school. No offense, but you have a lot of reading to do.

Going back to the OP, yes, a physician's job is a high-status one, but in comparison to several decades ago, it has lost some of its luster thanks to the internet and people who think they got their doctorate equivalent by reading WebMD or whatever garbage they Googled. It also doesn't help that physicians are getting criticized for their salaries, being characterized as pill-pushers, all while healthcare administrators are raking in the big bucks, trying to maximize profits at the expense of hospital staff and patients, and constantly breathing down our necks.

Regardless of the BS, it's an incredibly satisfying and fulfilling job (that pays well, as a bonus), but it's certainly not for everyone. I, personally, have no regrets, and would have pursued this career if I had the option of doing everything all over again.

I have newfound respect for doctors after seeing the journey involved.

Almost chose the med school route, especially when NYU announced free med school - but decided I didn't want to wait 12 years slaving away in med school/residency before I made the good money in a very stressful job.

I chose to be a physician assistant instead. Currently in undergrad. Job I want pays 207k before overtime/bonuses.

You have a good point. And it's so weird seeing all these people (and society in general) drawing the comparisons of doctors and engineers. Engineer will be making in the top 10-20% income for their age... very good, but not doctor good. Doctors are at the minimum top 5% of income earners for their age for their whole career. I'd like to go back for an MBA to make atleast doctor amount, hopefully more after a couple years of consulting.

Would you rather have someone with 8 years of background knowledge and many years of experience research your issue, or anyone on the street?

You think history teachers have all of human history memorized and never need a reference?

You think chefs graduate with every recipe memorized? Or engineers build things purely from their mind?

If it isn’t something you do everyday, you always need to double-check to be safe.

To that guy's point - I read about disillusionment among physicians regarding prescriptions and red tape. They basically say they're not able to provide the quality of health care they want.

Sounds like it's a mix of physician shortage + over-focus on physician metrics (patients seen) + pharma influence.

Honestly pharma influences much less than insurance companies do...

Insurance refused to cover a specific medication that the MD wants to prescribe and it creates a mess. The physician can push for why they can't be put on an alternative (see: less expensive) medication but the insurance company can shoot that down too. Basically insurance coverage (in some instances) are beginning to dictate care.

only dentists are more useless than doctors.
literally all they do is mindlessly prescribe medication. they are clueless about actual healing or saving lives.

    yep.
i had a young family member grow something the size of a golf ball inside their neck in about 72 hours.
we took them to the emergency room, doctor says some kind of infection that happens every now and then, must cut accross throat to drain infection or it will slowly choke the kid to death. this is a kid who would have a horizontal scar accross their neck for the rest of their life, like a beheading victim.

surgery happens, doctor comes out, says we can see the kid in a couple hours.
we go in the room, kid's sitting there looking normal, no cuts.
we ask the doctor what happened, doctor says she was able to go down her throat through the inside of the mouth, get to the infection, cut it open, drain it and seal it. kid's fine to this day, 4 years later.

that was literally me witnessing a doctor saving a kid's life, and not even so much as a hangnail on the kid.

    but yeah, they're fukking useless.

GPs save the most lives. It's just dumbasses who only believe what they see with their own eyes (e.g. surgery) that think this way. Surgeons aren't even that respected in the profession, limited skill sets. A critical care physician is a much more well rounded doctor.

GPs do basic stuff which improve the health of the whole community like screening, immunization, dealing with diabetes/high blood pressure etc.

nope. i have tons more success stories, and not a single malpractice. we all know it happens, but do you know what a doctor does on any given workday?

its like calling every cop a child killer.
