Math is my Achilles Heel, I dislike it with a passion. Too much order and logic for me. It is the only thing that keeps me from being a Mensan.

i like math, but i see it as a tool to accomplish things. i just dont understand mathematicians who do things like proofs and other things which have no bearing on actual reality.

science and especially physics i love but to do those things you need some math.

So, part of my job requires that I help create email & marketing campaigns targeting CEO's, COO's, etc. who happen to be mainly men. I read recently that men in business don't typically use exclamation points in their emails as often as women do, or not at all. Thought that was interesting. In your internal communications at work, do you guys ever use them?

im not in business exactly, but i do occasionally use exclamation points in my emails and texts because i find humor in it.

Lol Um, no. From what I’ve read, exclamation points might distract from the facts of what you’re trying to convey. Men are more direct in their responses whereas sometimes women are more wordy etc to make a point. And I guess that’s why men don’t use exclamation points. I mean if you’re emailing “happy new year!” then an exclamation point would be okay. But trying to gain someone’s trust and business, is different.

both, although my higher level supervisors i tend to not joke with as much. my direct supervisor im always joking with. i actually call him OG and rap rhymes about us doing our job. that is the kind of boss you want to have.


in my experience it would not be accurate to say all men behave in the same pattern. different individuals behave differently. me personally i try to create a positive work environment at all times. i never shout at other people, and i try to joke as much as possible (within reason). people who are in a good mood will perform better than people who are stressed out or pissed off.

Totally agree. Same thing with clients, once they become a client, you don’t have to be as formal. My work environment is pretty conservative though.

You're focusing on men vs. women where you should just focus on whether you want to use an exclamation point. If the exclamation point matches the tone of what you're trying to say (and usually it indicates excitement/positivity), then use it! But don't use it repeatedly too much!!!!!!1
