I guess as much as it seems silly to me to care for a plant as an emotional and intelligent being you aren't wrong. We don;t know what we don't know.

Maybe they suffer in a different way that we are unaware of. Perhaps the plants are our gods masking their true abilities to our small brains that can't comprehend what they really are.

yea, this is the kind of thing that most people dont ever consider, but i maintain that if a plant is alive then it probably is able to sense when its been ripped out of the ground and chopped up. and it is unfortunate, but we need to eat to survive.

Pain is just our response to something threatening our survival right? Plants definitely have a self preserving response which is essential for any life form with continuity but they are less related to us then animals so the response is less familiar to us.

So no I don’t think plants or trees have consciousness. It’s also important to distinguish between an automatic stimulus response (eg a plant responding to touching its leaves in defense) and consciousness.
