    No time for cardio

    Hey guys
I really loved these forum and learned a lot. In some of my previous posts I got a lot of great tips from guys who are in similar situation(i.e. busy Dad, 9-5 job, 3 hours commute....etc) so I am able to squeeze 3 total body workout sessions per week(Frida, Sunday, Tuesday)
I usually do 30 minutes of cardio on Saturday.
The only other time I have for cardio, is right before I start work in the morning( I work in DC) so I take about 10 minutes walk around the block) and another 10 minutes during my lunch
That’s the only way I can squeeze some form of walking
    What do you guys think

What are your goals? If you are lean and trying to maintain or gain muscle then you are probably fine. If you are over weight and need to lose fat then cardio really helps with creating a negative energy balance and just as important it is really good for heart health.

Hmm, well I'd consider a jump rope, they are cheap and more work than walking.

If you train at a gym with cardio equip you can do a little at the end or beginning of a WO to extend the activity.
The most important aspect of weight training; whether for the athlete, bodybuilder, or average person is to better ones health and ability without injury. - Bill Pearl

3 hour commute? Wow. To the point, you don't need cardio per se. If your diet is tight enough then you don't really need it. Just get a calorie counting app and really stick to it and you won't need to worry about it.

No kidding. We thought a 1 hour commute was a horrible way to spend our lives so we moved. I couldn't even imagine.

As to the cardio, I don't do it regularly since i started lifting, but try to fit it in here and there, just for cardiovascular health reasons.
It is hard to find the time to do both consistently.

Yeah it’s about 1.5 hour each way

My goal is to lose belly fat while maintaining my muscles
I was pretty lean in my late teen up to early 30s.
Here is a sample of what I typically eat, I have also used my fitness pal in the past

    Breakfast: oatmeal, protein shake, coffee
OR eggs and 1-2 slices of sprouted whole grain toast
Lunch: chicken salad( on my rest days) or chicken and rice in my workout days
Dinner: fish, chicken breast, or steak with vegetables
Snacks: 1-2 servings of fruits, 2 serving of raw almond or mixed nuts

I go to the gym right before I go home because once I’m home I know I am not going any where 😂

I am aware of the fact that cardio is not necessary for fat loss, and back when I was younger I did zero cardio but had no belly

The reason I would do it is mainly for heart and lung health. I do walk around city blocks during my lunch break but never time myself so it could a 10 or 15 minutes walk who knows?

I do however do a 20 minute on treadmill on Saturday’s and Sundays and that’s it

My question is 20 minutes of walking good for heart health ?

Any activity where you are up an moving around, getting your heart pumping, is good for heart health. I think 90 minutes of mild to moderate activity is recommended per week for heart - this would include time spent lifting weights. Odds are you are hitting that. Could you do more? Probably we all could or should. If I have been sitting too long, I get up and walk around or find a place nobody is watching to do some quick body squats or push-ups. Whatever I can do in under 5 minutes. This is just something I have found works for me. It makes me feel refreshed too after staring at a computer.

Your diet appears conducive to losing weight, but make sure you are tracking calories and macros as the quantities of what you are eating matter.

I've always been an avid walker but I'm not really convinced it burns that much.

You could join a 24 hour gym and do cardio really late at night. In many ways it beats waiting for a treadmill and watching people walk on them as slow as a snail.
