I've recently completed one of the infamous "dreamer bulks", and lost a small amount of abdominal definition. Ultimately, I'd like to know if it's generally better to do a bulk and cut or just recomp. Additionally, does age have any significant affect on the methods one uses to cut or bulk or recomp, especially at the age of sixteen?

At 16 you can do just fine eating to hunger cues, making smart decisions on food and focusing on variety (enjoy treats in moderation too though), and lift while trying to progress in strength. No real need to focus on bulk or cut or recomp yet.
Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.
1/13/16: Massive hernia.
5/10/16: Finally back to lifting, light but improving.

Once you are done developing and finished with puberty, so 18-20; growth makes accurately determining calorie needs very hard (which is why teens are not recommended to count calories). Rather than bulking and cutting, an easier method is to just eat enough to keep getting stronger, maybe gaining 1-2 pounds per month, and then cutting will rarely be needed or will be minimal.

At the age of 16! Whatever the program be, if your diet is protein rich, then you'll get amazing results anyway!
Try to workout 5 days a week!
3 days and 1 day off
2 days and then 1 day off
Just focus on PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD!
it means increase the volume of weights slightly with the progression of time and you'll see the increased strength in yourself!
And that increased strength is itself will produce thr leans muscle mass
