Kavanagh/Conor have confirmed that his knee was injured for the Mendes fight, plus he had been training for Aldo. He looked terrible physically. I remember thinking he was ill or something.
Anyway, Mendes is/was the best wrestler at 145. He's a freak athlete. Showing gifs of an injured/depleted Conor getting taken down by Mendes as if it proves anything is silly.
Khabib can take anyone down, but you seem to be basing your entire opinion of Conor's grappling/TDD on the Mendes fight. Just makes no sense.

Anybody know the ticket prices for this event yet? Def tempted to head to Vegas for this one.

RDA, Michael johnson, barboza, laquinta?
Do you even watch MMA to ask such a ridiculous question?
I find it amazing how conor fans can judge that conor will 'ko him quick', when hes never even really been rocked (before you bring up the michael johnson fight, try watching it without commentary, he barely flinched). He took an edson barboza spinning heel kick to the face and barely reacted, i think he can handle conors left hand. All evidence suggests khabibs chin is very good.

im a conor nut hugger but we all know whats going to happen. first 20 seconds of bullchit jabs then kahbib takes him down and from that point on, either conor gets crushed to death or spend the rest of the round getting all his energy drained out and will be easy pickings in round 2.
like the eagle said, you can stuff one or two take downs but hes going to keep going for the take downs until eventually he gets it.
you can look at the al fight but kahbib was never afraid of al's striking so he was willing to stand up and fight and occasionally go for a take down and if not then what ever. he knows how dangerous conors left is and wont take that chance.
its just like how every GSP's fight went and thats all there is to it. im still going to root hard for conor tho.

the thing is the chances of a miracle knockout are so high with Conor thats its almost a high percentage of the unlikely to happen.
there is a tendency to underestimate the true potential of his precision and timing and the devastating way he uses the threat of offense and spacing to control a fight.
how many times has he blown peoples expectations away. and theres also the potential for mind games to get khabib to be somehow out of character in a way that gets him off the target gameplan due to emotion or ego.
what if all the money he got just helped him acquire even more power and skill....
or what if the opposite happened and having a baby and millions made him lose the fiery spirit that made him so successful.
I know inkeepngoing back and forth about this but its a legendary matchup of fight styles with so many classic and subtle variables.

a knock out can certainly happen like how it went down with aldo, but the thing is that kahbib is bigger than aldo and there will be a good chance he could eat it and still continue.
and when has money ever helped a fighter, its the other way around.
nobody wants to see kahbib laying on conor the whole time but i feel most likely it will happen and happen very quickly.

Khabib's coach said that they're not even going to try to stand with Conor, just 24/7 takedowns. So it'll all come down to Conor's TDD and his gameplan. This fight could be over real quick with Conor getting pinned and raped or it could be a huge 'upset'. Coolest fight in quite a while. Still want to see Ferguson against Khabib tho.

Technically all these fights are still win/win self challenge fights and exhibition fights. As long as he doesn’t lose a fight at 145 his mystique will be mostly intact.
He wasn’t supposed to beat someone as big as Nate Diaz but demonstrated epic skills fighting a bigger guy, he wasn’t supposed to come anywhere close to mayweather in boxing but he dominated him and forced him to wait till he tired out, and he’s definitely also not supposed to beat Khabib because Conor has a body type for a striker and the opposite physical genetics that it takes to be good at ground.
Conor has that punchers hip build where it’s good for high velocity punching and strikes but not enough mass for wrestling. His upper body also is lean in a way that has no extra mass or back and generates total body power transfer from the legs and hips and through.
Same reason Khabib sucks at standup in the traditional sense but makes up for it with dominance via the threat of takedown pressure.
So Conor was not supposed to win his last 3 fights they are all challenges that if he overcomes would boost his rep but if he loses it makes sense.
It would be worst for his rep if he dropped back down to 145 and fought Max and lost.
Because unless he goes back to that, he’s essentially no longer on his home turf and territory compared to other champs who camp there and defend a belt

Ridiculous question? What rank were those guys when he beat them? Did you seriously mention Johnson or Laquinta like they are something? Lmao when your go to is Big Al to show you who you beat.. lmao. Only fight worth mentioning is RDA, who still has some big ass losses on his record.
edit: And you new people keep calling me a Conor fan. Jesus christ go back two years ago and see what I said.Last edited by chalup; 08-09-2018 at 06:02 PM.

lmfao.
He did NOT dominate floyd or come close, floyd played with him. At 0 point in the fight was floyd concerned, at all.
As for nate diaz, yes he's bigger but he's still just a 155er, conor massively over exagerated the size difference (claiming nate was 3x bigger), and as much as i like nate diaz he was considered a rank #6-10 kind of fighter till he fought conor. The size difference is no more than the size difference conor had against everyone at 145.
@chalup:
michael johnson was ranked 5 or 6 when he beat him, barboza was in the top 4, RDA was in the top 5-6. As for Al, his rank doesn't reflect his skill, perhaps you're new to MMA, if so i'd advise you to look at als resume and actually go and look at his fights. His rank is far lower than it should be because he barely fights, as the UFC dont pay him enough, and he deserves to be mentioned when we talk about top guys at 155.. he was on a 5 fight streak prior to fighting khabib, and khabib couldnt game plan for him because his opponent was changed last minute. Just because these guys aren't as big names as conor, and you havn't watched their fights doesn't mean they're not top guys.
Also, the whole 'who has khabib beat' argument is funny when conor has ONLY beaten alvarez at 155.Last edited by TappingTheZen; 08-10-2018 at 05:03 AM.
