Would recommend getting your undergraduate in Accounting...

Selling your soul to one of the BIG 4 accounting firms for 3 years. Getting a job to pay for your masters degree in something/CPA. Transition to Financial Manager/Director/Controller for a small company. Then leverage that to a bigger company. Pretty much the easiest way.

Finance is MUCH more entertaining, BUT there are not many entry level Finance Jobs. Most of the Analyst/Forecasting style jobs are mid-career. Simply put a person with a Degree in Accounting can get a job that requires a Finance degree, but the inverse isn't true.

Trying to get your ideal outcome often leads to the passing up of practical alternatives that deny your adversaries theirs.

Went to large D1 state school on sports scholarship. Graduated in May 2016 with accounting degree, 135 units, and 3.3 gpa.

Been trying to make it in my sport professionally the last 2 years, but losing confidence. In online classes at community college this summer and fall to become CPA eligible. Trying to find a way into public accounting, preferably big 4.

Applying online to everything -> no responses
Contacting recruiters on linkedin —> no responses
Family connections -> sounds like I’ll maybe possibly get an interview in Fall for Fall 2019 start date.

Brb questioning why I even went to college
    Brb looking into military

Big 4 tax crew. 2 years out, ~71k. Get your CPA if you anticipate going into public accounting.

At the moment I'm a program analyst for the government; which has literally fukall to do with finance.

I should point out that I did 6 years in the Army right out of high school (IT), went back to school for a finance degree, did a brief stint in the Navy to be a pilot, and then started with the government as a civilian.
Interesting, Im just about to start a job with a Federal Gov't agency in that exact same series. I'm pretty damn stoked, an actual career finally.

Anyhow, I got out of the Navy and then finished a Masters in Accounting (I had a poverty "management and organizations" undergrad major), and mostly couldn't find shyt. I ended up working some crappy "Consultant" job at a big Financial Firm, that was just a glorified call center were you were responsible for A LOT of information along with constant changes, updates, etc. It sucked and I quit eventually. Then did a cold call sales job for a very brief time. Then, for the last few months have been working a real low paying (though the job itself hasnt been that bad) job at a Mortgage company.

I live in San Diego though, and I really get the impression (and others seem to feel the same) that the job market out here is extra shytty, particularly the accounting job market. I dont know, but anyway about to start that 1102 job - make more money than I ever have (which isnt saying much to be fair) - be on an actual career path - and relocate to a much lower COL area.
