2 Months of Quitting Video Games (Story + Benefits) #NoGames

So it's been exactly two months of not playing any video games...

I had such a huge addiction to where I was playing almost every single day anywhere between 1-5 hours each day I was playing. On the weekend I would play 12hours Friday and Saturday and like 5-6 hours on Sunday.

Idk why, two months ago this morning I woke up, and I stared at the ceiling and asked wtf am I doing with my life. All I do is work and play stupid video games that won't matter after a couple years. So all the hard time invested into one game will eventually end and then I'll just consume into a sequel or a new game. No actual achievements here, I mean, I met very cool people and it was competitive but, I never actually achieved anything. Plus I used to rage a lot at stupid crap which is pathetic because its just a game. I was always angry!!

I am married to a very beautiful wife, son, daughter on the way, and I want to spend more time with them. This is the real reason why I stopped.

Since then, I've started my diet back up, going to the gym every other day, spending more time with friends, got better at playing guitar, shooting, and I love how much time I have to do anything. I hated that I used to make chit up and avoid "get togethers" with friends or family just to play video games.

Perhaps I could have done a better job at balancing games and life, but I just want to completely cut it all off and never play again.

Guys, I've already lost a lot of valuable time visiting my family, friends, and watching my kids grow because all I wanted to do was play video games. A balance between games and life or just quit. Seriously, my life is so much better now.

Threads like this drive me insane. Are video games like doing meth now? LoL. Everyone does things that are a "waste of time", if it's not video games, it's watching TV, social media, music, hanging with friends, watching sports, whatever, everyone has their ways of winding down which are essentially a waste of time. In no way is your playing guitar or shooting any less a waste of time than videogames. Balance and prioritizing things like health and career performance and no hobby is a problem.

I also quit watching TV and cancelled my cable. Sometimes I'll scroll through netflix for a good movie on a rainy day but thats it.

Playing guitar and shooting takes more skill than killing someone on Fortnite lol.

It's just about moderation. You do whatever makes you happy, video games might sound like a waste of time but if you're having fun doing it, is it really a waste?

Glad to see you sorting out your diet etc, as the above poster said, its just about balance, i personally find time for video games, diet/lifting and gf. There are times where it can be a bit more difficult if a new game im hyped for comes out, but having self control goes a long way.

The skill thing is arguable for sure. But regardless, are you going to earn a living doing it? If not, it's just as much of a waste of time, or a hobby, one is no worse than another.

What does skill have to do with wasting time? Guitar is still a pastime. So is shooting, and video games and knitting, and drawing, and reading. If you can't control how much time you spend on those things that's your fault. Good for you for spending more time with your family, but it's not a video games fault that you weren't before it was yours. There is no benefit to quitting video games. The benefit is not being so obsessed with ANYTHING that you let it take over your life.

Gaming is probably the hobby I spend the most time on these days but I still get to the gym at 3 or 4am at least every other day, eat right, perform at work, etc, etc. Acting like videogames or any hobby is worse than another is just stupid. We are all humans on this world for a short period of time and should enjoy periods of relaxation and happiness, no reason that can't be done with moderation and balance.

    Good on you.

I'd suggest you pick up a sport if you want the competitiveness and fun you were experiencing with games. Not only does it cover what you've lost from video games, but it has added benefits.

None of these things are anything near as addictive as video gaming.

You don't get the same dopamine rush playing the guitar or visiting your grandparents as you do playing Fortnite.

I don't get how someone can be addicted to videogames, or anything that isn't a substance with actual addictive properties.

I mean sure if someone has a problem with anything they find enjoyable and it's effecting their life in a negative way they should step away but I can't comprehend not having the willpower to control that. I mean I just LoL@ things like sex addiction.

I strictly limit myself to singleplayer story games for that reason. because once they end that's it. It's just like reading a book or watching a movie.

Just lol @ not being able to control yourself enough that you have to restrict yourself to playing certain types of games especially as an adult. I can see kids in there teens who have nothing else to do with their lives, but for fuk sake @ being an adult who can't control the time they spend playing a video game.

Just have to learn how to prioritize your game time man. Of course when your daughter comes a lot of your time will be with that. Though there is nothing wrong with gaming unless it is seriously stopping you from working so you can't pay your bills. As others have said playing video games is not wasting your life if it is something you enjoy. My gf hates that I play video games at 32, but she sees that it makes me happy and lets me have some game time. Mainly I do long sessions on my off Fridays from work while she is at work. Lately this has been enough gaming for the week. Other times I will game early mornings when she is still sleeping. Afterwards we go out and do our couple things.

I don't have an addictive personality so I don't get addicted to things. But I can understand people that do, like drugs or even video games like OP.

I quit for a year. No noticeable benefits.

That being said I don't let my responsibility go slack when I play video games either. Chores get done, weights get lifted, other hobbies get hobbied. The worst thing I have lost because of video games is some sleep.

Also for you OP, playing non competitive video games will probably help your anger issues. I never got mad at Divinity Original Sin, but League of Legends made me punch through a door once.

Buying into what? If these games aren't addictive then why are so many people addicted to playing them? Fortnite, for example.

I wouldn't say it's addiction. Like anything in life that brings people pleasure there is potential for lack of self control.

If I had to guess an average of .6 times a day.

If you have to have an all or nothing approach to something you were clearly addicted to, then good for you.

Games are fine but 5 hours a day can be a problem in somebody's life.

Stopped reading at "I had a huge addiction"

If you better'd your life great, but being addicted to anything and quitting and realizing all the time you have to further your life in other ways is almost always gunna be a success.

Moderation is key to most things in life.

But I just hope you weren't trying to imply video games are like drugs or are some evil vice. If you weren't then kudos to you, but if you were lmao

Again, congrats on bettering your life, but this chit is common sense. Srs.

Fortnite sucks balls compared to pubg. And I play video games. So no, it's not addictive. It's retards who can't prioritize responsibilities/escape from their lives that ruin the image.

Fortnite also is most appealing to children, which have the hardest time with self control.
