Only exception is one 28mm Ivanko with the weird 3 rings. Hope its retired by now. Maybe find out by the end of this year I hope. That was on their second platform with a 29mm Eleiko on the other.

29mm does provide some more stiffness for the big lifts.

I compete in the USPA here in Northern California on a regular basis, and maybe it's just a decision on the part of the local promoters (Old Skool Iron), but at all of the meets I've been at they use a trifecta of Buddy Capps bars, the Texas Squat bar, the Texas Power Bar for bench and the Texas Deadlift bar. At home I primarily train with the TPB but when I train at Untamed Strength I use each of these specialty bars to get ready for my meets.
If in doubt, squat and run hills. So you walk into the gym and don't know what to do? Then squat and run hills. Have a miserable day at work and want to break someone's neck but aren't sure who's? Then squat and run hills. - Wendler

The whole concept with this is 32mm in theory doesn't need to be as high in quality in tensile strength, so 165K should be plenty good enough for general PL training purposes. I'm half tempted to contact a few people I know to see if I could put something like this in motion.

That's interesting. I don't really keep up with USPA much, but I was told by some lifters in the Valley that they sold their Texas bars because of the move to 20KG OPB for all lifts. I damn near bought a TSB and TDL from them at the time but passed. I guess that's a good thing then...I'd much rather compete with the trifecta of Texas bars than just use an OPB. Personally, I think there should be a specific bar for each lift, but that's just me.

Not sure if he's looking to retire, but he told me that Fedex or UPS pulled his shipping deal with him and by the sounds of it, doesn't appear that he's looking to find an alternative. It's too bad.

Hell, that would be tough to pass on a used TSB and TDL like that. I'd love to add them to the home arsenal of bars.

Kind of a cool idea for bench/squat. Never thought about this. I bet volume would make this A LOT cheaper and more comparable. A one-off custom is the problem.

If someone had me pull with this I'd just leave and go to McDonalds. My next bar pickup is probably a DL bar. Leaning toward Texas or Rogue at the moment but if you have recommendations let me know.

Got bored and started looking around for 32mm 7' barbells, there are a few more options apparently! The York specifically looks like a solid deal, I only paid $360 for my Texas Squat bar so that would have saved me quite a bit of dough...

    1) Troy GOB-1200 for $302 shipped (no center knurl)
    2) Troy International for $180 shipped
    3) Ironcompany has their own for $299 shipped (no center knurl)
    4) PowerMax (known brand) for $290 (no center knurl)
    5) Hampton International for $288 (HAS center knurl)
    6) York 32120 for $274 on AdamantBarbell (no center knurl)

I'd agree that the right amount of bars in production would bring the price down. Buddy's guys were just being lazy and essentially chopping down an 8ft bar down to seven and making custom sleeves. I'm certain you could get the price down if one standardized the process for 7ft manufacturing.

Unless you have aspirations of putting on a meet at some point, I don't see the need for a DL bar. You can't really use the DL bar for anything else, so it's sort of a costly expense in terms of value. A 28mm bar makes way more sense, IMO, and it's better for DL training anyway.

The bar would have to have a center knurl, in fact, I would design it with an extended center knurl to ensure the Silverbacks have the right amount of coverage. That's one of my complaints with the TPB...the center knurl is a little short.

It had promise, but the knurl wasn't adequate enough to be a true PL training bar.

I doubt it, they probably just had it made with a mild knurl thinking more people would like it. The knurl doesn't have to be super sharp to a point to be effective, but it should be deeper than standard to be a true PL effective knurl.

Trust me I was as surprised as anyone to see that I won. I have been reposting a lot of their stuff lately b/c I think it's great they've finally decided to enter the world of social media. Maybe one day they'll actually get a real website up and running too. I get the knock of me being picked as a winner, but I've spent a lot of my own money buying stuff (way more than I care to admit), including a Texas Deadlift Bar, to do reviews on, so it's nice to actually get something like this. It's kind of nice to hear people think I'm relevant. At the end of the day I'm just a dude that works in data storage and enjoys lifting and making some review videos on the side in my free time, so why not me?

I'll def do a review on this bar, although I don't imagine it will be overly glowing. I think it's a niche product. To me its main competition will be against the Rogue Ohio Bar. I see the TAAB only having the advantage of a center knurl, otherwise I think the Rogue wins.

I also agree I'd love to see a 29mm TPB. I think the biggest issue with it currently is the whip that comes into play when you load more than 500lbs on it. Having a thicker diameter would likely mute this. They could then differentiate more within their product offerings.
I make bad videos in my basement about training, which makes me an internet guru.

    Congrats on the new bar

For me, it's mostly how blatantly obvious the winner choices were instead of picking people at random. They know you will likely churn out a review for them in return (no hate), which is good because then at least the word will get out on whether the barbell is worth buying compared to American Barbell or Rogue. But then it will likely take it's place on your wall of barbells that never get used, when it could have become the daily driver for someone who needed an upgrade from the CAP OB86B they were using. Either way, I do think it's good they are getting out there in the spotlight with social media, I never even knew what Buddy Capps looked like until I saw their Instagram page recently! Web site would be cool, didn't they mention they were going to launch one soon and fully join society? haha

The TPB will start flexing pretty good in the mid 400s, the 30mm TSBs started getting wild mid 500s, so I doubt a 29mm would have any chance dampening any whip 500+. That's always been my point of 28.5mm vs 29mm, that .5 difference up to the 29mm doesn't stop the bar from whipping really in squat and bench when going heavy, but that .5mm makes a huge difference in DL performance. If you want to dampen the bar flex, you need to go bigger to 32mm to really calm that down.

It's possible, and if that was their thinking, then they really have no idea about the PL audience. Even for Squat and Bench PL training bar, you'd still want the knurl to lean toward the aggressive side, certainly not toward the mild side. Most of these equipment companies don't really have any good idea of why they do anything, they just copy cat. They try and market broadly thinking that will cast the most sales.

Not sure if it was part of the revision when they changed the size of the center knurling, but my TSB appears to be 32mm. Admittedly I don't really deserve such a bar given my squat strength, so I can't confirm flex on anything that heavy LOL.

Yeah, the newer ones are 32mm and are stiffer. We used to bench with the older 30mm TSB back in the day and used the Iron Wolf and Mastodon for squats.
